gas tank size

hey guys, today my car ran out of gas but i was right near the station so i just kinda rolled in. i filled up fully and it would only take 17.5 gallons and i couldve sworn that the tank held 18.5 (i think i got that from the haynes manual). so how much gas will the tank actually hold?

why do you care? you shouldn't be driving around with the gas light anyway.. just get some gas and stop trying to figure out why you were a gallon short

yea, i shouldve gotten gas earlier, but i my gas light is really confusing and i wanted to go to the cheap station. when you fill it up all the way and start the car again it will only go to the 3/4 mark and it takes a few days to get all the way to full. then just below the 1/4 mark the gas light will flash on and off at different intensities at random times and then kinda fades out. around the E mark itll cut on and off, but wont fade out any more. does everyone elses light do this or is something wrong w/ my gauge?
