What did Consumer Reports think of the Fourth Gen?
The most recent 'New Car' issue of Consumer Reports I have is 2000. In that issue they state the Maxima is 'much improved for 2000'. What did they think of the fourth gen Maxima? How did they rate it compared with the Accord, Camry and Domestics.
I know it is rated highly for reliability, that is one reason I bought one
. For most of us reviews by mags like Car&Driver would be more relevant, but I am still curious.

I know they said the backseat is uncomfortable...dont know where they get that...I checked all that stuff out before I bought my car last year and everything looked good

From what I remember, CR tested the 98 Maxima GXE auto and said its best feature was its "smooth and refined drivetrain and predictable handling" but they said it came up short in ride and seat comfort compared with the 98 Camry and Accord.
Overall, CR ranked it below the Accord and Camry, but higher than all of the domestic family sedans.

I'll have to agree on the seat comfort. If nothing else, it's too flat, causing me to brace myself with my feet when going around a corner at anything above low speed. The cloth on the side of the lower drivers cushion is getting wrinkled from lack of solid side support. The foam has to take all the side forces, and I think it's losing its shape.
