Just kidding I have no idea.
I don't know either; maybe it just sounded good...
Here's a link on freshalloy.com of the nissan engine matrix.

Here's a geeky guess. V is Volume. Q is sometimes used as an engineering symbol for efficiency. Therefore the VQ designation would indicate that the design priority was focused on volumetric efficiency.
Or, more stuff in + more stuff out = more power.

It's just a designator code. Like RB, SR, VK for some other Nissan engines. They may have some obscure meaning contrived by a Nissan engineer in Japan, but they are generally understood to be meaningless.
Now, everything past the first two Nissan engine designator code DOES mean something...30 for 3.0L displacement, DE for DOHC with Electronic fuel injection.

From the looks of it, V=V block formation, any other letter means
inline. Second character appears to be some sort of generation or
engine program code.
V does not equal to V6 for sure because there is a VH45DE which is a V8.
RB stands for Race Breed from what I know.

The same as the old zx it's VG30ET,
V=v6

30=3.0 liter
E=single cam each head,It's not like our maxima two cams in each head
T=Turbo
VG30DETT
V=V6
G=?
30=3.0 liter
DE=DOHC ECCS ENGINE the same as our engine
TT=Twin turbo
That's why the skyline does begin with RB not V,because It's a straight engine,the same as the sr20det

Seems to me that not 1/2 the guys on the .org know what it truely means..(me included) or they are suddenly being quiet? On this site, the people who talk the most usually (i use that term loosely) know the most... except for D.B.M- that man is a genius.. could put together a maxiam form loose parts in a garage... but never ever says anything....
