radar detector only detects radar, if the cop is following you driving wrecklessly then you wont know...

How do you know it was stock? You have x-ray vision.

I'll take two.

It goes to show you just never really know where a cop might be. They're really doing unorthodox things these days it seems. When I was in Massachusetts we had a problem with people pretending to be police officers pulling people over. Honestly I'd be weary of stopping for anything that was unmarked expecially a Camaro. But I've seen them here in MD too, camaros (perhaps Firebirds?) on the side of the raod pulling people over.

Strange. I couldn't imagine the day I would stop for a PT Cruiser though. I'd probably drive right to the police station afraid it was some lunatic wannabe cop!

as long as you look out for suspicious cars on the road, you'll be fine. besides, you should know better than to race domestics, cops will only buy domestic patrol cars, cruisers and sports cars.

In Washington some of them use new Volvo S60's with the high pressure turbo... If you don't want to be caught, the only sure way is to not race on public roads. Otherwise you take your chances...

How are you going to know if a cop following you in the night time...do you have night ray vision?

learn to know what the lights of crown vics and other common cop cars look like.. also if you look real good.. sometimes the moon light can reflect the lights on top of the car..

the headlights are a dead give away, they never have fogs on the CV's in my area, too. there is a stratus police car around where I work, so the only way is to look for lights or various other cop gear, like the huge bar on the front bumper/hood, lights in the grille/rear deck, driver's side spotlight, "M" plates, etc.

it also helps if you have a 5spd to down shift so your brake light doesn't come on when you are being paced.. my cousin likes to do that in his GS 400

autos can flick off the overdrive. the M plates are a dead giveaway though. In IL the state police have maroon plates. Also, in PA only state cops are allowed to have radar.

not entirely true. i've seen a 2002 Maxima as an unmarked car here in virginia. he had on his uniform and the blue lights in the rear near the third break light.

If anyone is ever driving in Plano, TX, look out for a white (V6 looking) camaro and a gold brand-new impala (non-SS), there are NO, I repeat NO tell-tell signs of it being a cop (no visible lights, no spot-light, no plates, and get this...LIGHTS POP UP FROM DASH AND FROM GRILLE) but trust me they are! I have seen them both pull over people next to me on Plano Pkwy.

Just a heads up!

In NE PA, always watch out for impalas...any color.

Also, i've seen NJ state police with unmarked Vipers. That's right a viper. I was driving on I-80 one night when this dude blows past me at over a hundred (i know, because i was doing about 95 at the time) and out of the tree line a white viper jets out and chases this guy down, with a blue light on the dash and his lights flashing. Caught the guy in no time.

Another time, i saw a dark blue caprice pull out of the trees after somebody, but the cop was an idiot. There's a hand-operated spotlight mounted on the side of the car, which the cops use to single out the person they're chasing. Well, when the lights aren't in use, the officers turn them around, so they're facing into the cabin. I guess it's so the light is hidden more and the car looks like a civilian vehicle. So the cop pulls out and gets right behind the guy he was chasing and flicks on the light, but the moron forgot to turn the light outward. The whole interior of the car explodes with white light, and the car swerves across three lanes of traffic and luckily doesen't hit anyone. The cop wound up on the shoulder, after he finally turned the light outwardand the speeder got away. Stupid jersey troopers.

Undercovers now (here in phx) drive any make and moderl vehicles. They try to confuse people who try and remember what kind of car u.c. drive.

I predict we will see an increase in "countermeasures".

I see oil slicks, rear mounted machine guns, rear mounted guided heat sinker missiles.

Build yourself a Bond car or find a way to make you car fly, because you can't outrun the cops.

Not always. I have a buddy of mine that's an undercover cop and he goes through his share of cars. Most of them have been domestic cars; Pontiac Grand Prix GT, Chevy Monte Carlo, Pontiac Bonneville SSEI, Pontiac Firebird V6. But he did have a 2000 Nissan Maxima before he wrecked it.

here's my question, though, if you don't pull over, can they really blame you for it?

Yea, like others have stated, that's not always true. My good friend got pulled over by an undercover in a 3rd-gen integra with bolt-ons...he went off the line with some girl in a V6 mustang back in the teenage days, and the acura was behind them. I've heard of cops in undercover street-ish cars that egg on races and then flag up the lights, this may have been a similar car. If that happens, that's pretty evil.

here's my question, though, if you don't pull over, can they really blame you for it?
That depends on whether or not you have the worlds fastest car that can outrun helicopters. At least around here. Plus, if they get your tag and witness a violation, especially if they have it on tape, they may contact you with a citation. Hell, I got a phone call one day from the local police station and had a citation issued on me remotely because some random civilian called in my plate. (I gave someone a touch of bumper love in my first few months of driving in the high school lot...ahh, sweet sixteen).

my question was kind of a joke, but it's still a good point, I think. there are plenty of people out there with illegal lighting, and how likely is it that an integra is a cop car. if anything, I would speed up and get to a public place before getting out of my car and I don't think anyone could blame me for that, could they?

ummmm... most of the time, actually. and if not, there's this magical thing called a street light. it's not hard to find the spotlight on the side, blue/white or black/white paint job, the words POLICE, official plates, bar on the hood/bumper. the unmarked cars are the ones that are single-tone paint w/o lights, but with official plates. the undercover ones have normal plates and hidden lights. you usually won't see those unless you're in an area notorious for street racing.

Don't get fooled though, cops now employ the services of Mustangs and Impalas, at least in Baltimore City they do. Here in MD, I once saw a deep green minivan sitting on the side of the road (I-95/RT-100 Junct), with heavy tints all around. I remember passing it doing about 67mph (on 55). A week later, I received a mail from the state police, complete with 3 high-res pics of my car. The letter states, that they just wanted to inform me that they are now equip and capable of detecting speeders with precision. Looking at those pics, from the camera's vantage point, it was exactly where I've seen the minivan the week before.
