Best Rims for racing

What would be the best rims for racing? Should I get little 13" rims with slicks?

13s are not going to fit over your brakes bud. Neither will 14s. Get the lightest 15s you can find/afford, get at least 6.5" wide, preferably 7-8".

I assume you're talking about drag racing and not autoX or circuit racing, correct?

Drag and I wasn't thinkin with 13s. Just wanted real light rims. Which 15"s are really lite? I looked at chestons site for the rim weights but I couldn't find them anymore.

I checked out wieghts and this is what i found. My rims weigh 25lbs a piece but my tires weigh another 43lbs. That really sucks. My stock rims weight 16.5lbs and those tires weigh 22.5lbs. THe only thing on tire rack that was lighter would be nealoc's rims which are the k1s which are 13.5lbs each. How much would slicks on those rims weigh?

Slicks are very light because they don't have metal sidewalls like street tires do, on the order of 15lbs in the sizes you'd be looking at, give or take a few.

So then I would be lookin at 33lbs or so. Is that much better than the stock gle rims or should I just buy slicks for those?

About .2 seconds or about 1-1.5mph just because of the weight. But you will drop your times even more because of the added grip off the line.

My trap speeds are about 1mph higher when I use my 30lb rim/tire combo compared to my 37 lb rim/tire combo.

Well it's better but I wouldn't buy wheels just for drag racing only to save 5lbs. If I were in your position I would just put slicks on your GLE wheels, however, your options will be severely limited because GLE wheels are only 6.5" wide right?

What combo is 30lbs? The best I could do was slicks on some comp lite rims and that is like 33lbs.

My 15x6" Mazda Millenia wheels and some CRAPPY (they are so bad its not even funny) Amerigas tires. They have like 500 treadwear and B traction rating. Horrible for racing, but thats whats on the wheels and I don't have any money for anything else right now. The wheels are 11.5lbs, so that leaves only 18.5 for the tires and air

When I have money I am getting M&H Racemaster 26/6.0-15 slicks. I've only found 2 slicks that mount on a 6" wide wheel, and only one in the circumferance I need. Like I said, not alot of options for wheels under 7" wide.

A local tire shop or race shop should be able to get them. Or you can do mail order. What do you mean by stock size?

The size of my stock tires? What width should I get if I had a 7" wide rim?

Slick sizing isn't done in the same way as radial tires so you can't really compare. What size you get depends what you plan on doing to your car, and where in the powerband certain sizes will have you finishing the 1/4 at.
