225/55/16s wont fit?

so I the place I'm getting the tires from today and they said that 225's might be too big because I have a 95 GXE.... they said they could only gurantee a proper fit with 225s on an SE.... is this true? also, I can take the bolts right off my old stock rim and use em on the new ones right? (5Spoke SE ones) Also, how expensive would it be to get wheel locks? thanks for the help guys...

They will fit fine, I have 225/55/16 on my SE and it is lowered with Eibach and Tokicos have run this way for 3 years now. There is very little difference between the SE and the other models.

i've had 225-50-16's and i now have 225-55-16's... both have plenty of clearance... i don't think 95's and 96's are any different. my friend had a 96 s/c'ed with 235-45-17's (Momo's) and they were fine. i wouldn't worry about what you've been told.

no problems here with 225/55/16 on a 96 SE.

from what I understand, they said the rear tires would be fine but the front tire tread would get eatin faster if i make turns or something like that....

i always thought a wider tread would give longer life due to the increased patch and greater dispersement of weight.

but....

i think you guys are missing the key to their point.... i have a GXE... they said SE is no problem but they aren't sure about a GXE.... so are they wrong? I think they are, but thats just a lowly educated guess

what is supposed to rub or be the exact problem? if anything i would think that the SE would have a problem b/c of a larger strut assembly than the GXE's and GLE's. but all i can suggest is to ... either find a fellow max owner with that size tire and swap it out and take a drive... or have the shop mount them and b'f you drive it... just have a tech check it out and get a more educated guess. dunno what else to suggest.

15" rims...

There's no problem running 225's on an SE (with 16" rims), either 225/50-16 or 225/55-16 fit fine. But you're probably rolling on the stock 15" steelies, right? Stock tire size is 205/65-15, and you're talking about a 225 tire. You would need 225/60-15's to keep the speedo relatively close (-0.5%).

Will a 225 tire, even with a 60-series profile, fit on the stock rim? How wide is the 15" steel rim; it might not be wide enough for all that rubber. That's where the problem might be, not a clearance issue with suspension parts.

Hope this helps.

The stock steel and alloy wheels are 15X6.5...

heh

ok I think its going to be ok but let me explain myself.....

I have 15' stock wheels right now

I bought the 16' 5 spoke SE alloys, they only come with the centercaps and themselves

thus I am getting tires for them

225/55/16 will fit??

and can I use the bolts that are coming off the 15's....

The people you talked to are idiots. I'd bring it somewhere else.

225/55/16 will fine on the stock SE 16" rims and will have no clearance problems whatsoever with any 4th Gen Maxima. SE, GXE, GLE, doesn't matter.

You also get a ton more choices in 225/55/16 over the stock size.

Re: Re: heh

And I'd get the right lugnuts too. The ones from the steels would work in a pinch but you should get the right ones since the flared end will be different.
