I was looking through the papers and receipts that came with my '95 max when i bought it in may...and not to my suprise there was no mention ever of the spark plugs being changed, and there are 113k on the odometer! so I ran out and got new plugs right away andI just popped in new NGK v-power platinum tipped plugs today, and I can feel a little difference when the car is running, picks up a slight bit better. I am still slow though, going to change the fuel filter this week sometime and hope things start running even better.

 

I've never changed the fuel filter before, and it looks kidna hard to get at, is there anything i can move or take off to get easier access to the filter?

 

yeah disconnect the whole intake assembly (the rubber accordion part from the throttle body), that should let you move it out of the way a little.

also, try taking off the top hose that goes to the fuel filter on the top side first, not the side that connects to the filter. made it much easier for me, because it released the pressure in the fuel line, and its easy to get to.

 

thanks, I'll give that a try. one more thing, should i just get the same kind of filter that comes in the car, or is there a diff kind which will work/perform better?

 

goto your friendly nissan dealer and get a 300ZX fuel filter, its supposed to last 30k miles instead of the usual 15k. it's bigger than the OEM one, but it should fit fine in there.

 

Also, I would check the ECU for any "ghost codes" such as the Knock sensor. If this code is present, you can change it and notice some difference in engine performance, too.
