Car hesitates to start...need help!

this morning the car didn't start normally. i haven't had this problem so far. when i turned the key, it cranked up 4 or 5 times before actually starting up. it usually gets it on the first shot. it got better as the day went by but i think something is wrong, and i would like to solve it before it gets worse. does anyone know what the problem could be? i dont think its the battery because stereo, etc works, and not the alternator either because i drove around for awhile with no problems.

Thanks in advance,

Dev

well its still summer here but i guess it could be a tad colder in the garage, though that shouldn't be the problem because the car should be able to start in the winter which is much colder. This morning the car didn't start at all. The ABS, Battery, Oil, and Service Engine Soon lights were on at this time.
Does anyone know what the problem might be?
It makes a cranking up sound, then pauses, then makes another one, and pauses, this is really slow, and doesnt' start after all.

just went to the car for another try and the light are going dim, the "ding" open door sound is getting low in volume as well. so im thinking either the battery or alternater needs to be changed.

anyone know how to tell which one?

Most likely your battery needs replacement.

your battery might be dead already, but... this may have been caused by something else.

try putting the key to the ON position for about 10 seconds, without starting the engine. then, crank it, and if it starts, you can be pretty sure you need a new fuel filter.

jump your battery

next time you can't start... try giving the car a jump. If the car starts up w/ no hesitation then it's your battery. My suggestion would be not to change anything until you give the car a jump or put another battery in and test it.
