for all u guys looking on a tire decision
for all u guys looking on a tire decision
hey guys, i just got new rims and tires, 17's
the tires i got are just awesome...they are the
Sumitomo HTR+..someone i know thats real good with this stuff recommended them to me...if youre not gettin chromes, looking for a good ultra high performance W speed rated(upto 169 mph) ALL SEASON tire, which means yes it can handle even in snow, and in rain i already saw thats its incredible, it held ground in pouring rain goin at about 90 although i do have suspension done...this tire compares to the pirelli supersport 7000 and michelin pilot sport A/S...these three are the only ultra high performance ALL SEASON tires you will find and the Sumitomo are only $99 a pop in the size i got which was 225/45/17 at TireRack.com. They even have a huge article talking bout how these tires compare and stand up with the other two at abut 2/3 to half the cost-pirelli's about 150 each and michelins about 240 each
Great tire so far, i love them..cant spin out in them yet, they hold great in wet and dry, theyre quiet, feel incredible and smooth yet they still can give you the VROOOM feeling too. They aso have a treadwaer rating of 360 which is really high compared to alotta other ultra high performance tires. The only thing is they dont have that V directional rotation pattern like their fellow HTRZ II which are a summer tire and will grip a little better in the dry warm weather ut in the cold wont hold up like the HTR+. There are better tires out there but if u have problems with changing yur tires for the winter worrying bout the snow then u should look into these, theyre great and for an incredible price too. I would reccomend these to anyone.

Note of caution regarding Sumitomo HTR+ tires...
I have Sumitomo HTR+ tires, and I too, like the ride, noise level, wet/dry handling, and the PRICE. However, I do have 2 complaints. The first is that they have to be run at higher tire pressure. According to a Sumitomo rep, the engineers and the performance guys bickered over the added weight or a more rigid sidewall, and in the end, they rely on tire pressure (up to 51 PSI) to maintain rigidity, as opposed to the 32-35 PSI that most tires run. I have mine at 42-44, which is the recommended pressure. Any lower and it felt loose in corners. I wish I could run lower pressure and get the same stability, but the reduced weights makes up for the pain in the @$$ of having to run high pressure.
My second complaint is in their quality control/design and their poor warranty replacement policy. Half the time customer service was nice but unhelpful, other times they were downright evasive about following up on a warranty claim. Here is a link to the thread about what happened to 2 of my brand new tires:
Sumitomo Warranty Claim Experience
I hope that noone else has to deal with what i did. Overall, I highly recommend these tires...as long as you do not have a problem with them!

I had these tires on my 93 and they owned.
I couldn't get them to squeal for **** on stock beaten down suspension.. and they were 225/50/16 on 16s.. they are truly nice tires for the price.. I think i paid 76$ each for that size i just mentioned from tirerack.
I do not have experience with them in snow though.
The noise level however is not all THAT great.
I have Dunlop Sport A2s but in 215/55/16, they are a bit higher in profile but they are almost silent.. i don't hear the road at all.. only wind
The sumitomos were a bit loud at times but they are great tires. Good ratings and they are an awesome bargain.
I think I'll go with them when i get some 17s.

You don't happen to know what inflation I should run on a 235/40/18 do you? I can't figure that out. I'm running 35 psi today. I really like these HTR+. I think they're even better than unidirectional design because I don't have to worry about which sides I'm rotating as much.

You can find sumitomo's website at sumitomo.com I think, or treadways.com. Try those. My max pressure is 51 and it runs well at 42-44.
Yeah, those Sumitomo's are awesome! I just threw them on this past weekend on my front wheels- 225/50-16's. Just replaced Yoko A520's, these tires feel even softer than the Toyos I liked, and are hell of a better grip than the Jokohama's. They never grabbed in the dry, or even in the snow. These Sum's are exactly what I've been looking for.
hmm i didnt know about the tire pressure thing being THAT serious
if i got the tires from tirerack, are they covered under sumitomo warranty? or is it different?
and yes i dont mind the pattern on the tires even if they dont look so sporty but as you said, dont gotta worry about rotation as much and diretional pattern when rotating
I pretty much just love these tires, i dont mind a little noise in the tire, it makes me feel as if they have some attitude in them!!
