$415 quote for 60k tune up??

I went to the dealership today to get my alternator recall... while i was there I asked about a 60k tune up. I was trying to decide if I should try and do it myself or have them do it. Do you guys think I should pay the $415 for it?? they also named off a lot of stuff that I didn't think that was needed to be done. PS I went to maximadriver.com and saw the 60k tune up.

Do it yourself. You'll spend less money on the tools and parts all together.

I think you should save that $415 and buy all of your own replacement parts and do the job yourself. Break it up into pieces and its a cinch.

Thats much cheaper than I was quoted. They wanted $520 from me for it. I've spent maybe $200 in parts and tools to do it all myself. If you've got the time and the knowhow do it yourself and save a bundle.

yea, definitely try it here yourself, one tune up at a time and if u have questions, we are all here to help you with whatever problems.

If you still don't want to do it and want to save money, you can find shops and gas stations that will do tune ups for less than that. All you have to do is buy parts at one of these online nissan shops to save money and ask them how much it would cost for labor. First ask them how much for everything then ask them minus parts cause you can get them yourself. I bet a lot of places make their money over charging for parts.

Should you replace the O2 sensors too, even if your aren't getting a CEL? What about knock sensors...

NO and NO. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Or, if you work for the federal government...

If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is.

Reason I ask, I have a weird feeling my CEL isn't working correctly, I tried to do an ECU dianostic and got no lights at all to light up.

My max feels like its sluggish b/t 2 and 3k rpm, and I was thinkin it could be the O2s or knock sensor. I use premium all the time...

A bad O2 shouldn't affect power.. it will affect your gas mileage, though. I can't think of a reason why a knock sensor would affect it either.

If either is bad your ECU should be throwing codes at you anyway...

I do all my own work, then I buy toys, I mean tools with the money
I save. It is a good feeling knowing it is done right and you did it!

universe517: As far as I know, the ECU uses readings from both the knock sensor and O2 sensors in setting up the fuel/oxygen tables. If this is the case, then bad O2/knock sensors will affect performance.

jcy98maxse:I would definitely do the tune-up yourself if possible.

Do the tuneup yourself

My max just hit 60K and I performed all the service with no problems. I did have the tranny flushed and filled using a
T-tech machine at the local shop ($80). I even changed out the
plugs which was a really easy job. Take your time and just think
about all the money you saved. Dealer cost for 60K service- $525 with plug change. My cost- $170.
