My car eats money and it's hungry

Well, the dealer replaced the ignition switch that is in the steering column last week and that seemed to cure my "starting" problem. Temporarily though, I'm afraid. The car died on me again last night. Stopped at the gas station and it would not restart. I towed it to the dealer this morning and this is what they found. Prices are installed including tax and rounded to the nearest dollar.

Starter:$388

CV boot: $154

Fixing transmission pan leak: $115

Trans flush: $90

Rotate & balance: $25

Replace drive belts: $96

Power steering flush: $60

Replace left lower ball joint: $340

Front wheel alignment: $45

Total munchies food bill for Max: $1313.00

Course that's really not too bad considering she's a 97 SE with 245,000 miles on her.

I've replaced pretty much everything on the car since about 200,000. New trans, winshield, painted the front, new headlight covers, new foglight covers.

One question. Shouldn't my struts have been shot by now? No dealer I take the car too has said to replace them, so I am wondering if I should just do it anyway as a pre-emptive move. Thanks for your opinions.

Maximamoose, some of the prices seemed a little steep to me as well. Check my location and you'll see that I do indeed drive it on very flat roads all the time. This car has spent it's whole life travelling between Dallas, Wichita, Tulsa and Oklahoma City. That's about as flat as it gets. Car has rarely seen intown use. An example: City miles last week, 60 Highway miles last week, 800

You really mean 245,000 miles? That's awesome, my Max needs to get me that far before I can buy my 350Z. Only Nissan could build a car so comfortable and fun to drive that would be able to last this long...and keep going...

My struts lasted 141k miles by the way, and that's in New Jersey where they don't repave roads, they just put an infinite number of little patches on top of each other each spring.
