Kill Story: 95-96 Maxima 5-speed

Minding my own business with my girl in the car and a 95-96 Beige Maxima SE 5-speed flies by and cuts me off. We end up hitting the next red light, and he gives a few loud revs. I sat there very calmy, blocked my screaming girlfriend out of my head, shifted the auto into 1st, applied the brake heavy, held the gas so rpm's stayed at 2000.
Light turned and I got a SICK launch. I jumped out by a car length before we even hit 15 mph.
My shift to 2nd was perfectly timed and the hard pull from 2nd added about a half car to my lead. Ran all the way through second with the same car and a half lead. Shifted to third and pulled another half car length on him up to 100mph.
I let up b/c cops are always around there, and I knew it was over.
He had to be all tough and keep his windows rolled up, wouldn't talk to me. Next light he wanted to go again, but luckily I looked closely and saw a cop coming the other way about a quarter mile down.
Looked like this guy had an Apexi WS exhaust, I dont know what else.
It felt great to beat a 5-speed with my auto.
I dont even have a y-pipe yet.

I know, I know, he must have been a bad driver. I still smoked him though!

No they're not. I didn't notice much of a difference in acceleration once I put them on. The only thing different is my tires don't chirp when I pin it off the line, which is a good thing, just takes right off

We weren't moving, we were stopped. Manually shifting an auto makes you a tiny bit faster if you do it right.

Its an auto isn't it. How hard is it to drive? You just press one of toe pedals and you have a 50/50 shot of accelerating. Now I understand picking the gear may be more difficult for dome like whether you should use the "D", "P" or "R"

You're funny wisea$$
Manually shifting an auto you can still shift at the wrong time...
but thanks for the insight on picking a gear, glad you know how

Manually shifting the auto is slower than just putting your foot down. Ive tested it many many many times. Unless you have power through redline, it becomes slower.

i think what he is trying to tell you is.. since when you maual shift you usually hold the power till redline.. and the VQ drops off power after 5000 rpms.. with the tranny shifting for you.. you still have power and an't dropping off..

I never said I wait til redline to shift. I shift at 5500-5800rpms. I know that the power band doesnt go to redline...you can see that by looking at any dyno...I cant defintiely understand him saying I wouldn't be faster manually shifting if I held it to redline, that makes perfect sense.
Thanks for the input guys...always trying to go as fast as possible with the slushbox, thinking about selling for identical car but 5 speed.

it's all about who gets off the line first. even though you drive perfectly through the gears it isn't going to make a difference if your opponent gets the holeshot.

So if power drops off after 5000 rmps, what is the best point to shift when manually shifting? Or should ya just leave it in D and floor it?

I used to pretend that I could shift.

Untill...a mechanic named "Scotty" gave me "Warpspeed"

with my Ypipe(and other mods) Now, I pretend I'm Captain Kirk
