Mid pipe a waste?
Mid pipe a waste?
I have a cone filter and a custom midpipe, and I was talking to my friend who knows a lot more than me about cars. I told him about the stock Maxima intake system, and he said the 'box' between the throttle body and the MAF sensor might be a sort of buffer to increase the volume of pre-filtered air so that throttle response is better. I had never thought of this, but if you stop on the gas, wouldn't it be better to have more volume after your intake filter?
I felt like I had low end gains (vs. just cone) after I installed my midpipe, and I always thought the black box was just another resonator to keep it quiet. Maybe that was just in my head. Any thoughts on this? Could my friend be right?

Your friend is not right. The box is a resonator and leads to more resonators. When modding your car remember this: long straight and smooth in pipes is always better than cluttered and boxy. Your midpipe (as well as mine
) helps our lowend tremendously by gettin rid of all that junk.

The shortest distance between 2 points...
is not the resonator box.
Also the rate of Diffusion between gases in an enclosed structure is inversely propotionate to the square root of their density.
Better known as Grahms Law. ie. Less volume/tighter = greater density = greater diffusion = faster travel to the engine =
