No, I didn't say Bl*W Job...

How difficult is it to change the front and rear brakes for someone who has never done it before and is NOT mechanicaly inclined on a 95 SE...I really want to do this my self. I'm ordering a factory service manual soon.

Whats the hardest part about changing them - how long and do you have to bleed the brakes?

thanks,

PG

I've changed the pads on cars before- it's pretty easy. Didn't have to bleed the brakes on anything just pop off the calipers and slip in the new pads. That was on a car w/o ABS though not sure if that makes a diff. You may also want ttget rotors resurfaced/turned...

The Haynes repair manual has the best coverage of disk brake pad replacement, better even than the factory service manual. The Haynes book has lots of pictures, and these are especially helpful. Buy Haynes or borrow it from your public library. Read up on this job and decide if it is within your skill level. It would help to have a knowledgeable friend work with you for that first brake job.

Front brakes wear out sooner than back brakes. You may need only front brakes now. Pad replacement on rear brakes is a little more complicated because the rear calipers have the hand brake mechanism.

Bleeding is needed when the brake hydraulic system has been opened. There is no need to bleed the brakes when doing an ordinary pad replacement.

Real easy to change the pads.
As for bleeding the brakes you need 2 people working in sync.

If you're bleeding the brakes alone check this out:
