Changing a maxima's color... should I?

hey guys -

i am getting a new maxima (to me anyway) and it is everything that i want, but the wrong color. the car is:

1998 maxima
se class
black leather interior
5 spd! yay
moon roof
low miles.

but... the color of the car is gold. i want it to be black. if the dealer paints it for me, will i experiance any problems with the paint? is it just better off waiting for a black max? the only reason i just want to paint it is because it is so hard to find all of the above options on a max. so please, let me know your thoughts. btw, the paint job is free.

thanks.

That car you are getting sounds good...Id say get the paint job ONLY if it is a good quality paint job...as in everything is painted properly (under the hood, door sills, etc). Why dont you just paint it some aftermarket color that isn't available on a max?

A REALLY good paint job to change the color of a car would normally cost between 2-3k.

If they're willing to do it for free I'd be VERY suspicious.

black won't look better than gold if they hack it up....I'd wait if I were in your position. If you do paint it black, may I suggest something a little different like a midnight pearl(black w/ blue pearl in it)?

what color is your car? it is black right? or does it have the blue pearl in it? i like your cars paint alot... it is very deep and black. thats what i want.

they offered to paint it for free because it was in a minor accident. (the guy opened his door in trafic, and someone ran into the door.) it was also keyed the whole length of the car. so he was going to repaint it anyway.

i talked to him tonight, and he said that the paint and technology they use is very good. the paint/materials cost over $1000 bucks. it sounds ok right?

Make sure the price of the car isn't that expensive. And why wait for a black maxima when you can get it painted free? You will have new paint..and I suggest you get the blue from the maxima in fast and the furious. That color was nice! I want that color on my 2k2 Maxima.

Mine is black....I want to repaint it with the blue pearl in it though. My buddy has a 2001 prelude and it is the color I want. looks black, but in certain light you see the blue in it. It's sweet! Also, for $1000 are they going to do the door jambs, under the hoos, in the sunroof area, in the trunk, etc??? black until you open those areas and see gold would be bad.

I am getting a free paint job from my friends uncle, so I am going to paint it gun barrel silver/platinum.. the 2003 Passats come in that color. Damn its soooo nice. Anyways, if you are getting a good quality paint job like I am for low price, go for a color that not a lot, if not no maximas have. Like said by others, doors, under the hood, etc.. will be pains in the a$$ but hey you get what you pay for. Also keep in mind that when you change color, you need to change the title, and all those other forms. Remember it says on your thats your car is gold. If you paint it balck, and something happens, the car you are driving isn't the car on the papers. You get me? Hope this helped.

Remember if you change the color that may hurt its value during resale, also black is one of the hardest colors to paint right. The bodywork has to be perfect otherwise any imperfections (bad body work, wavy panels, etc) will only be magnified 10x.

i hate to say this, but i would wait if i were you. believe me, another one will come along like you want it. i looked over 6 months to find my black on black SE, but it happened.

another BIG thing to think about...new paint on a used car looks VERY suspicious to a used car buyer. it may not be important to you know, but think about when you try to sell it in 3 or 4 years. when someone looks at buying your car are they really going to believe you repainted a perfectly good car just because of the color? to me it screams WRECKED. just something to think about.

IF YOU KNOW HOW 2 PAINT but if you dont, and you go to a pretty good shop it shud cost you about 1,500.00-3,000.00 depending on the material they use.so if they say 600.00 shure it sounds good but how good is there>>>>>primer/sealer/paint/clear ect. if they use sucky stuff/it will look good when you pick up the car but the paint will probably fade or just plain suck!

Blkmax95c, I just noticed that you're from RI....I live in Warwick. we should hook up sometime and do lunch or something. BTW, what's wrong with the maxima that you have? Also, what dealership was that at? I know a couple dealers in RI and I have a friend in a body shop. Maybe we can dig up some useful resources. Send me a PM.
