Battery life

I have my OE battery that is 7.5+ years old. How long do Nissan (hitachi) batteries last? I am thinking that I am on borrowed time with this battery. Do I buy another Nissan battery or other? It seems like (from searching) that the newer Nissan batteries are not as good as they used to be. Or am I wrong? Does Hitachi still make the Nissan batteries?

These are the batteries that I am looking at:
Nissan $70.00
Die Hard $79.00
Deka $82.00

Yours lasted longer than mine did mine lasted 4 years on my 97, and this is in the South. You can go with another brand which will be cheaper than buying a battery at the dealership, they all have warranties. My sister has had an Everlast in here Accord for 5 years and it shows no signs of wearing down and it cost 35.00 and they still run about that or a little more. Is the battery giving you signs of death?

I had to replace battery on my 97 and my daughter's 97, we live in Charlotte, NC so summers are pretty hot. IMO you are on borrowed time. All info I have seen lately rates the Sears Diehard at or near the top in all size catergies. I would start watching the paper for Sears sales!

I'm still on the OE battery in my '97. Check the fluid level and top the cells off with distilled water. I think the Die Hard is the top rated battery. The summer heat kills batteries, the winter cold is when they won't start your car any longer. At 32 deg your battery can only deliver like half of what it can at 70 deg.

Yes the battery doesn't seem like it is has the power it had.

My OE battery CCA is 790 per Nissan. I have the upgraded battery.
Per Sears the Die Hard that fits my car is 550 CCA...IMO is way low.
The Deka which is a sealed battery like the Optima is at 825 CCA. I think that I am going with the Deka. But.....your opinions please.

Unless the battery has signs of dying(rough start, very sluggish), I wouldn't worry about it - unless you want to waste some money. Batteries life also has alot to do with how you drive, some have lasted more then 9 years partly because it was able to charge back to full after the starter-drain + a few other minor details. If you really want to buy another one, I bought I think a champion at sam's club for 50 bux... 3 year free replacement warranty.

Mine is 97 also.. I believe mine came with bigger battery, since I had option of winter package.. I was thinking about replacing it for maintenance. Somebody quote $70 for Nissan Battery, however, does it apply to bigger battery just like mine? What's the part number for OEM battery? Can anyone tell me exact spec(crank amp, others) for me, plz? Thanks in advance.
