What % of your salary goes to mods?

This is something that I've wondered about for awhile, and have seen other questions regarding "average age of Maxima owners," etc., but what it really comes down to is how much of your salary goes to mod your Maxima? I'm curious if people are spending ALL of their paycheck, or 0.05% on mods. This $ amount does not include oil changes, belts, fluids, etc. It refers to mods that wouldn't be required for normal driving conditions. Rims, springs, struts, fstb, lights, stereo are all good examples. Post your $$$!!!

Moderators - if you deem this worthy, sticky it. If not, I'll bump it until we get a decent representation. Thanks!

Different percentages

I think you need to put up different percentages. If anyone making just 30K a year spent 25% of their salary on mods, we would have some silly maximas running around this site. That’s 7.5K a year. In one year you could have a SC, JIC coilovers, and $2,500 left over for bolt-ons. Oh well, not a relevant poll anyway.

Even 25% is way too much! I don't even spend 25% of my post-tax salary on rent. Oh well, I guess it's just a matter of priority.

If you are spending 25% of your salary on mods, you either 1) go to school and have a part-time job, and thus don't make a whole lot to begin with, or 2) need to just buy a better car.

Another good poll would be, how much of your salary do you spend on your car? This includes gas, mods, maintenance, loan payments, etc. But again, results will vary widely by salary.

What you wrote is sort of my point. I've seen a several polls about "How old you are," etc., which makes a difference whether you are working part-time to finance mods, in comparison to many of us older-types who work full-time professional jobs. I guess I hear so many people talk about adding this mod and adding that mod (even recently talk of turbos) and I'm curious what % of their salary is being spent on mods.

I'm also talking about usable salary, post-taxes. I'm pretty sure that no more than 20% of the members on the site are pulling in $50k+ (which would be your $30k, after taxes) per year.

75%!
The car payment and insurance is about 6% of my salary.
that means I have 69% left to start modding!

Car payment and insurance is less than 2% of my post-tax salary. But that's only because I've already paid off my car and have no more car payments.

That leaves me most of my money to spend on beer and ttties

Maybe we should be asking something like.

1. How much do you spend on mods each year?
2. What is your current yearly salary?
3. What is your occupation?
4. Then maybe something like: Do you live at home? Student loans? How much do Mommy and Daddy help you? Something to assess a debt to income ratio.

Or maybe you could ask “What percentage of your spending money is spent on mods?” Just trying to help.

How about we just post our mods and tax form from last year?

Salary is a tricky thing because it really depends on the region you work in. Someone with my job in Cali or New York would make ~15-20K more a year. Anyways here ya go.

1) ~$1000
2) ~43-47K depending on overtime (Kansas City)
3) Environmental Scientist/Engineer
4) 28, own a home, married, own both cars, no debt except my home loan

I choose not to be weighed down by car payments and such because I really hate carrying any kind of debt. I drive a 96 Maxima and could afford something much newer, but much of the enjoyment I get out of my car is due to the mods. By having a new car, I wouldn't be able to do much to it because I'd be spending so much on payments and would have little left over for mods and that would make me just plain bored.

Like 25% or so

that's only on mods..

if it would include, gas, insurance etc.. I'd say around 70%

I make like 10-12$/hr and I'm a full time college student... work weekends, go to school weekdays.. I spend around 70$ a week on gas alone..
