Ok i have a 97 SE and it came with keyless entry.
I bought the car used and the guy at the lot had gotten all of his keys stolen and a week later they stole a GT and expedition. Well they took the keyless entry to my car so i didnt get it.
I went to the nissan dealership and i was going to get one for like 100 dollars buy when the guy went to program it, it wouldnt work. He said it was probably b/c my computer was full, maybe because of the previous one, and it needed to be reset and that would cost around 200. So i left and just figured i'd live without it.
Just wondering if you guys know of anythingi can do to get keyless entry.
Also i have a factory alarm and its a pain when it goes off b/c i have to turn the key in the keyhole to disarm it.

 

Never heard of the ECU becoming "full".

I can tell you that you can find remotes on e-bay for about $40.

 

Your dealer is right. You can only have up to 4 remotes. However, he is also trying to rip you off. You can get a remote on Ebay for $25-30, and clearing the codes so you can add more remotes is free. Instructions on how to do this are in the MaxFAQ, look under Maintenance -> Programming the Keyless Remote.

man, it never ceases to amaze me how much dealers/mechanics try to rip people off.

i got a moderately used remote on ebay for ~$20 shipped. it's not the best looking, but it works. new ones were going for around $50 on there. and programming it takes about 5 minutes.
