The auto dimming for the I30's were a feature that you could add on. I think the mirror is around 200. Because my AcuraTL auto dim mirror broke and i had to get a new one.

But do the aftermarket ones work with our cars? Ours are attached to the headliner and most of the aftermarket ones I keep finding just attach to the windshield. How would that work out?

Lexus Has Then. .But There A bit Different

My dad has a '95 Lexus SC300, and that has some sort of a liquid crystal mirror. So at night when all the headlights are in your face from behind, you just push a buttom and the rear view mirror dims. Its pretty sweet, i have no idea how it works or if thats what your looking for. Just trying to help, peace

I can only tell you what it says in my FSM....I should have a scanner in a couple of days and I can post the wiring diagram.

(1)Black gets splice with (3)Black of the illumination control switch
(2)Red w/ yellow stripe connects to (2) Red w/ yellow stripe of the illumination control switch
(3)Red w/ Blue stripe gets spliced with (1) Blue w/ Yellow stripe of the illumination control switch
(4)Green w/ Blue stripe goes to a Green w/Blue wire(might not be in your car) to 10A fuse #13 (in car fuse block under the instrument panel)

Hope this helps. If you want a scan, I can try and get you one over the weekend.

A scan would be great man! Thanks, is there anyway your FSM would say what the polarites of those wires are? if so I could probably just wire it up to the sunroof map light. is the illum control switch the dimmer switch??

I don't think the book has polarity but then again, i could be wrong (I wasn't an EE major). The illum control is the dimmer switch.
Also, if it was hooked up to the map light, wouldn't your dimmer be on at all times? I think that's why it gets hooked up to the dimmer switch, it only has power when the car is on or key turned (i could be wrong again).

I've seen on in one of those order catalogs, i believe it went for like 250 or something. It fits most cars, except imports. You would also have to buy a seperate mounting bracket that went for $70 or something close to it. I bet you can find one online (ebay ) for a lot cheaper. Good Luck

thanks, The problem have now is how to I get those wires routed over to the dimmer

Good point about the map light. it may even be that it will only turn on when the map light is one. that woudl suck! Thanks for your help it's a great starting point to figure out how to wire this thing.
