SMX question
Just curious, but if someone bought a SMX from a Nissan dealer when it was new a couple years ago, would it have a Nissan warranty since it used a non-Nissan supercharger? Or was I mistaken in believing the SMX was obtainable through Nissan?
I'm not sure
My understanding was that the SMX was a 3rd party maxima trim level offered through Stillen. It was essentially a 97 SE with Stillen mods like the supercharger and body kit and Momo Arrows, intake etc...
I don't think Nissan offered it, and i doubt they would place it under their warranty, especially the engine.

The SMX was available through nissan dealership and subject to its warranty. In fact they still do warranty work all the time my car without hesitation. Lets see, in the last year they have replaced:
Bearings
ECU
TPS
No questions whatsoever. They Always just say, "we have heard of these things, just have never seen one."
And do the work.

Because the dealer thinks that this is part of the SMX package. It wasnt however during my year. Ignorance is bliss.
They can put an sc now on an SMX, however I do not know the ramifications on warranty. I believe it depends on the dealership. I have worked with 3 seperate ones due to a move. THey all have treated me the same way. As if this was all one package.

No, I actually took 2 of the service guys for a ride. The one who was working on the car actually put 50 miles on it while the dealership had it......hmmmm. No they dont balk at all. When they replaced the wheel bearing on the drive wheel they said it broke due to the increased torque from the sc, putting more stress on the drive train. They replaced it with no questions. We paid only around 16k and I guess that having the smx badge is worth having all the mods on the car and yet still having the dealership work on it. Hell even our insurance covered our car in an accident when they repaired the body kit and even paid for the SMX badging from stillen.
My Nissan Dealership has installed most of my modifications no questions asked... They installed the supercharger, full exhaust, shocks, springs, and wheels. All for like $200. They still treat the vehicle as if it was still under warranty. Guess I'm lucky too...
