junkyard... what can i use from an i30??

I've been calling around a couple junkyards... finding out which has what kinda car that i would be interested in looking at. I've got some pretty good electrical skills (majoring in E.E.) so yea.. I wanted to know a list of things that i could possibly take outta an I30 or GLE. I have a 96SE and i'm not sure what i have and don't have compared to those models. I'm mainly interestd in the Infiniti... what kinda stuff can i get outta that and incorporate in my own? I just wanted to add some more "luxory" items or whatnot.

One thing i really wanted was the abilty to fade out the lights when i hit the "lock" button on my remote. I hear they're on the 3rd gens... and it's located in a timing control box (black box behind security light). I actually did find a 3rd gen but i was unable to locate it. Oh well, thanks for any help.

ooooooooo know what i think you can use is the headrests for the back seats. I'm pretty sure I30's with leather have headrests and you could grab those and put them in yours, cool mod i think!

You can use the homelink visor from the i30. Also if you find one and you don't need it, let me know...

I hate to say it, but there is not much more on an I30 than a GLE. The homelink, auto-dim rear view, head rests, better quality interior. Not much more than that.
If you wanted you could get LSD out of a 5-speed I30.

I think I30 uses "electro lumnicent" gauges like Lexus.

Here is just an idea if someone had tons of money, what about the whole trunk lid? I dunno how cose it would be to fitting, but it would be interesting or just switch up the back of the lid?? i dunno maybe, maybe not, just a thought

you want to get the front headrests because they tilt forwards and back.

Hmm, I just browsed Edmunds.com in search for any other "options" that didn't come outta this thread... one of the options on a 1999 I30 was the "Infiniti Communicator"

Is that the homelink system?

the entire rear bench would be nice, because infiniti used less vinyl and more leather in their seats.. and nab the front headrests, i replaced the entire front seats, along with side airbag etc..

Nope, not the homey link, its the Onstar system.

Trunk lid won't fit, the rear fenders are different. As a matter of fact only the doors and the roof interchange.

If you find a 99 Limited I-30, they have chrome door sills, but they say Infiniti (I got those )

Infiniti's have auto climax control, but there may be sensors you have to find too.

The headrest are an easy swap but you do need to get the entire seatback.

The door panels have a imitation gathered leather and real carpet on it, I'm not sure if the Maxima's have those, maybe on the GXE.

The inside of the trunk lid has a finished panel.

One of the most important that I think alot of people do not realize, is the I-30 has a great sounding horn. Sounds like the american iron horn, not the wimpy japanese horns. Worth getting, I wish I have them in my '02.

Wow thanks for the writeup!

I didn't know about the horn, i think that would be a MUST to get if i do find an I30.

What's the auto-climax control?

I disagree, the I30's horn is wayyy too underpowered for a sedan. It is so wimpy, maybe they redesigned the horn, im not sure what yr u got but I have a 97 and I hate the sound.

Mine is a '98 and it is the same sound that I had on my LS 400 and other luxury cars I've owned, definitely better than the Max horn.
They may have made a change in '98. Either that or someone else thought your horn was dope and swappped it out .

Re: junkyard... what can i use from an i30??

don't forget about the button on the dash that the infiti's have for the fuel door release (where the max's have the blank, right of the dash dimmer wheel).

my roommate has a 97 i30 and it DOES have the electrolumenescent gauges. looks very cool at night, but plain during the day.

also, the carpeting on the lower door panels. i think that adds a touch of class.

What do u mean the trunk lid won't fit. Is it because the tail lights are smaller on the outside ot the bumper is different? Cause i'll buy the i30 bumper. and bondo a fit for the outside tails

The whole body assembly from the doors back are different than the Maxima's. In order to use the I-30's, you would have to cut the rear quarter panels off , once you have the I-30's quarters on, the rest (trunk and bumper) will line up. Alot of work. However if you get the front fenders, hood and bumper (including lights), the nose will fit and it's a easy bolt-on whereas the rear is alot of body work.

I don't believe so and even if you could, the I-30 tail lights run the width of the trunk, so your tailights wouldn't match.
