Is the OD OFF light on?

If the light is off, when you push the OD button, does it light up?

Maybe the bulb is out in the gauge cluster....just go for a cruise, and turn the button on and off...u should feel changes in the rpms if it still working

dude, overdrive is a 4th gear, that's all it is, it doesn't effect street driving unless you go over 45mph on the streets, if you turn overdrive to off and driving 20mph it will not do anything, and if you think it does, then it's all in your head.

if im crusin at 35 and i knock the overdrive off, it hell of slows me down... overdrive helps you hold your speed, regardless of what people say.

I does not turn on at all. It does not kick in ever anymore.

If the light is OFF, overdrive is ON.
If the light is ON, overdrive is OFF.

Overdrive on - Auto tranny shifts from 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, then when your speed is steady, above 31MPH and the tranny is up to operating temp, the torque converter will lock. (this feels like another shift)

Overdrive off - Auto tranny shifts from 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
4th gear and the lock up are no longer active. You have a 3 speed automatic now.

Switching your overdrive off at highway speeds will cause the cars torque converter to unlock and the tranny to downshift from 4th to 3rd gear. Your OD OFF light comes on.

Switching your overdirve on/off at speeds under 30MPH has no effect on your cars shift pattern. Only the light comes on to tell you what mode your tranny is in. (you may feel a downshift from 4th to 3rd if your speed is over 25MPH)

I think you have it backwards. Overdrive ON (button in, dash light off) means you have 4th gear. If you're crusing around town in 4th gear at like 35mph, and then step on the gas, then yes, having OD on will make the car feel sluggish. Turning off OD (button out, dash light on) will kick you into 3rd, and you will feel more power. Maybe that's what you meant all along. I dunno. I'm cornfused that all these people post here and don't know what OD does.

Ok, eveyone I know how OD works, LOL... I just wanted to know if any of you have had trouble turning off the OD. IT does make a diffrence if you don't feel the diffrence you should get you car checked. IT also sves me gas believe it or not. Who ever said it was in my head, thats right my brain is in my in the right place. But you should get you car check if you don't see a diffrence in the OD.
