When I flushed my transmission I disconnected the return line. I did this so the transmission cooler will be flushed as well. Disconnecting the return line is the best way.

I thought I read that we should disconnect the return line at the transmission in order to flush everything out of the return line as well. Or is it sufficient to let gravity drain the fluid from the return line?

Thats the right hose. Put YOUR hose on the nipple on the radiator and let it rip. That way you flush out the stock tranny cooler as well.
