knock sensor replacement was tough but not impossible
Well, I changed my knock sensor last night. I had been getting an EGR malfunction and knock senor code, reset it, and it came back. I did this three times to make sure the ECU wasn't acting up. The third time after resetting the ECU I immediately ran another scan and the CEL was off but the ECU still said knock senor malfunction; nothing about the EGR. So I condemned the knock sensor and purchased one.
Removing the knock sensor was not too bad. With a swivel, an extension for my socket, and a good magnet I was able to take out the screw without dropping it or putting my hands under the manifold. The connector was a little tricky taking off the old one but I figured it out. Then I had trouble. How was I to put the new sensor in and get the bolt started if I couldn't put my hand in there? As I was pondering this, my mom walked into the garage with some drinks. Light bulb turned on. Mom was able to get her hand under the manifold and get the bolt hand tight. So I tightened it once more with my socket and the job was done. I reset the ECU and it has behaved so far. Sorry for the long post. Just thought I'd post my experience.
