HELP: Cattman y-pipe loud!

I installed a used Cattman y-pipe today I bought off an org member. Most posts I read on here said the y-pipe shouldn't make the car any louder than stock. But mine is alot louder now, at idle, WOT, everything. Sounds kind of like a '92 300ZX for example but louder. I'm wondering if either I need to try to tighten the bolts up or if there could be a problem with the flex. Anyone heard of a problem like this?

Also, I just used the same gaskets at the manifolds that were already on the y-pipe and used my factory gasket at the cat. Is this acceptable?

Hey man stick a board or something in the exhaust outlet , this will create back pressure, and listen for any whistling comming out of the exhaust... if you hear alot tighten down on the bolts where you here it ( you shouldn't be able to miss the whine, it sounds like a high pitched whistle. if you dont hear any whistle you probably don't have an exhaust leak... you might hear a little noise comming out that is natural but alot isn't so check it out and tighten down the bolts.
good luck

Do what 97maxinMA said, and listen closely to the flex section, make sure that section isn't blown. My friend's flex section blown and it doesn't sound too good.

if it's really that loud, check the gaskets.

i just installed my cattman a few days ago.....**** is kinda loud. I checked for leaks and did'nt seem to find one. I guess cause i got a cat-back with no resonaor thats bound to happen. Did u keep your resonator? If not, thats where the extra noise is probably coming from.

I still have the resonator. Everything is stock but the y-pipe. I need to do that test to check for leaks I guess.

if everything else is stock in your exhaust piping, you have a leak, the y pipe is touching something.... just get under your car when it's cold and feel the flanges for leaking air.

I thought I remembered reading something about problems in the flex of some older Cattmans. Anyone know about this? This morning, I could tell the noise wasn't from under the hood, definately under the car near the flex. Maybe I'll try to record the sound later on and post it.
