Considering whether to get it or not. I have a SC 5spd with JWT ECU raised 7200rpm. In daily driving though, I don't ussually go above 5k, and do not go to the track, but might in the future. How often does everyone who has one use it being a daily driver?

 

Depends. If i go on the highway I will at least use it getting on the freeway. I have gone days though without using it, just going to class and work. I go through a bit of withdrawl though and need to tach it up sometimes just to remind myself that its there.

How often do you use your SC's potential? Unless you like to floor it up to 5K and then let off, you'll probably get the same use out of both of them.

 

I don't drag. ...but I find I use it quite a bit. Just makes for fun driving around town. JWT ecu has been ordered but I am told the turn-around time is a depressing 8 weeks or so of late...

 

Let's just say that your raised 7200rpm rev limit from your ECU is pretty much useless without the MEVI. You can't even use the stock redline of 6550rpm fully without the MEVI either. The VQ30DE has "more engine than lung capacity".

 

I use it every day.

 

I use it often on the highway, and I use it occasionally around town. Living downtown limits it's usefulness though :/

Actually since he's SC'd, his car will pull to 6500+rpms even without the VIM. Boost easily overcomes the US-spec manifold's lack of power above 5400rpms. Take a look at a dyno chart for a boosted VQ and you'll see what I mean.

As for the original question, I use my VIM a few times a day, usually getting on the highway. Once the newness wears off, I doubt I'll use it as much.

Are you telling me JWT expects people to have a 8-week down time with thier Maxima? Even more reason to get a spare ECU.

So if the SC makes the engine pull hard all the way to redline, is there any point to getting the VIM?

Yes, but the overall gains of the VIM aren't near as spectacular with the SC. An NA Maxima will gain ~45fwhp at 6500rpms with the VIM over the stock manifold. The SC Max will show a gain of 15-20fwhp. It's still a great buy, even with a SC.

i actually find myself breaking 5k's every few days. i did it at 6:00 this morning, after work! felt great

 

Phuong at GR RAcing (who are handling this for me) says that for the better part of a year, JWT has been taking a LONG while to do their ECU upgrades for Nissans. He says that an 8 week turn-around has been the norm and should be expected. If you use their core (with charge) it's not that big of a deal, but I sent in a spare ECU (identical serial to mine) for upgrading. In any case, I am very disappointed that it will take that long... my theory is that JWT has bigger fish to fry and Nissan ECU upgrades and such take a back seat. I will probably be getting the thing back in Dec. with the snow in full effect! Still, I ultimately would get it done anyways and doubt JWT will be changing anytime soon, so I figure the sooner the better.

 

Good thing I've got a spare ECU sitting on the floor of my car. Too bad I was told it was a G-Force and it is a bone stock automatic ECU

That's a damn travesty. Don't know how you got it but I hope the seller got his due. Man, that's some bad ecu luck... sorry to hear.

 

i hate the concept of "if i want this mod, i have to either find another ecu, or leave my car sit for weeks on end!" the mod itself seems like a no-brainer, but what i have to give up sucks my left one

 

Actually, they have a core charge of $500 meaning they will loan you a stock ecu so that at least your max will run. You then send in your car's ecu for upgrade. When you get the upgraded ecu back, you send in the loaner and they will credit you your $500. You just need $500 you're not using because it sounds like it will be tied up for 2 months or more.

It is best if you send in your own ecu or a spare one with the same serial because, as I've found out on my car, another ecu with similar specs may still result in CEL's.

 

Yeah, Karma is a b!tch. He'll get his in due time I'm sure. No more used ECUs for me, unless they are coming from a reputable .org member, I've been burned by newbies twice now.

 

man, i feel for you. my philosophy on newbies is, unless they are recommended by a reputable .org member, not to buy from them. i don't care how good the deal sounds, for all we know, they could be just like this roadbeast character i am reading about. just my 2 cents

 

Problem was, Roadbeast wasn't a newbie. His status may have been downgraded (via post count) after he deleted as many posts of his as he could, but he had been with the org for a while. My feeling is that he was initially well-intentioned but greed possessed him and now he will have to burn in hell for all eternity... serving as the devil's own beeatch...
