question on Y-pipe

I was driving home tonight, and a fellow Maxima owner pulled up next to me and asked if I wanted to buy a brand new Y pipe from him on the spot for 80 bucks. I asked what kind, he said Stillen. I told him to pull over to the side so I will take it (I know they go for at least 220). It looks brand new, inside and out. He gave me the Y pipe and the smaller bent pipe, Im assuming I will need also, along with the rings to connect it. However, the gaskets came in a Nissan bag. When I got home, i searched over the pipe...but couldnt find anywhere it says Stillen on it. In the middle, it does say: 'this is for racing use only, not intended for highway use'...or something to the effect of that. My question is do the Y pipes say the brand name on them? I hope he didnt rip me off and give me an OEM pipe. I will try to take pics of it and post them....Thanks for the help in advance...

i can't answer your specific questions however, i would assume it's not stock if it said that "this is for racing use only, not intended for highway use"...do you know which member it was?

No, it was just a general Maxima owner..nobody I knew. I would assume that also, but it doesnt have a name inscribed on it.

It's your luck day!!!

So you seriously got it for $80!!!

It's a Stillen baby! Mine says the same thing! There's a little plate with the engraving facing down toward the ground, right?

Man, for $80 you are sooooooo lucky!!! The Y-pipe might be hot though.

people with y-pipes pass emissions (sp?)

just make sure your car is running for a while before getting tested.

removes the 2 pre cats that are found on the stock y pipe....those 2 pre cats only operate when the car is cold, therefore having no affect on the cars emmissions testing when it is fully warmed up....unless they specially know that a maxima has 2 precats on the y pipe, and look for it, then you can get crap, but most likely, 90% of the time, they will just look for the 1 main cat, and not know anything about any pre cats

Dang! You are so lucky! You should drive around some more & see if someone offers you a supercharger!

Check out Motorvate's Y-Pipe Analysis for lots of hp/tq curves pre & post y-pipe install. Congrats!

There is no way to trace a Y pipe. There is no serial etc like other things. And who is gonna go around to EVERY maxima asking them to remove pieces of the exhaust so they can see if it was theirs?
