Heavy rim or tire noise?

with my 300zx rims, basically I hear this killer noise. And the tone is deeper at low speed, but becomes "Andrea Bocelli"-like at about 80 mph, and soprano at 90+ mph.

Is it because of my 300ZX rims / wheels or because of my thicker rubber 225/55/16 ???

I was thinking it could be the rims?

And also, people with konig tantrums, do you hear any significant noise gain over stock 16s or 15s?

Thanx people.

Road noise is caused by tires not rims.

So then...
Do I have to get thinner tires like 215s?

But I've seen may .org members in their 235s and 245s Don't they make horrible road noise? Like hard to hear music in their car?

I thought 225s were very modest

its not the width, it can be the tire compound and tread design. cheap or aggresive tires often make noise. my falkens are fricken loud, and they are 235s

It's not neccessary the tire size, but the tread pattern, rubber compound, uneven wear etc. that contributes to a noisy tire. It's just a fact that some tires are just noisier than others. What kind of tires do you have?

Go for T or H rated tires???
So T or H rated cheaper tires don't make noise???

And my z-rated yokohamas with super-glue-sticking-to-road performance is causing the noise??

B/c my bro has cheap Potenzas H rated and they don't make that much sound in his 300Z.

And go for 225s or higher or stay low to 205 or 215s?

Speed rating doesn't have anything to do with noise. You can get el-cheapO tires that are noisey and you can find Z rated tires that are quiet.

Check TireRack's feedback section, they have ratings for preformance, noise ect... I think it was a Bridgestone Potenze S-03 Z rated tire that got a 8.xx out of 10 for noise. Thats pretty damn quiet! We'll be putting that tire on our 330 soon and I may be looking at that as well for my Maxima in the spring.

any yokohama owners?
Anyone with Avid T or H or 4 with 215, 225, or 235.

Do you have lots of rubber noise when driving?

How about those Dunlop owners?
thanx.
