Alright, I posted earlier about having a weird "clanking, puttering " kinda noise when I come to stops. I recently had my Stillen B pipe, and springs and shocks installed, so I figured one of these was the culprit. IT HAS GOTTEN MUCH WORSE!! Now, when I start the car, for the first 10 minutes or so of driving, there is an AWFUL clanking noise from underneath my car, specially when I go over bumps!!

BUT, after the car warms up(about 5-10 minutes) the clanking noise goes away?? This is really bothering me, my car has never had problems like this...I guess I will take it back to the guy who installed the pipe. Any ideas on what is going on here? Why does it go away when the car warms up?

1) Look for an exhaust heat shield which is loose.
2) When the engine is cold, grab the tailpipe and wiggle it up and down, left and right. See if that produces a similar sound.
3) Check the wheel lug nuts for tightness.
4) Raise the hood and check the three nuts at the top of each strut tower.
5) With the engine idling and the hood open, "blip" the throttle open and closed while watching for excessive engine motion which would indicate broken or loose engine mounts.

Another item to check is the front stabilizer bar (a/k/a sway bar). Look for a broken or missing rubber bushing at the end where it connects to the control arm, or at the stabilizer clamp.

Daniel, I noticed another thing when driving yesterday. Another odd sound came up when I was on the highway. It was only there for like 5 minutes then it disapeared. It was a kind of "hissing" noise...the best way to describe it would be the noise of water going through pipes in a house, like when someone in the next room turns on the sink. Do you think this might be related to the clanking noise? I'm sorry to bother you with all of this...I will take the car to the mechanics on Tuesday to see what is wrong. Thank you.

Hay I figured out what was the matter with my Max,

I had/have a loose exaust system right were the B-Pipe takes a sharp turn it is loose and clanks,it does not clank until the car is warmed up though {strange}.Your problem seems to have something to do with your new B-Pipe possably a broken or damaged seal or it is loose and causing the rattles you here.So check that stuff or what I would do is just bring it back to the Mechanic and have them figure out what the problem is and have them correct it since they caused the problem amd it should be free of charge.Good Luck

I can think of three things on a car which make a hissing sound. They are different sorts of "hisses".

1) A punctured tire makes a hissing sound as the air escapes.

2) An overheated engine makes a hissing sound as steam escapes at the radiator cap.

3) An obstructed exhaust system makes a hissing sound as the exhaust gases squeeze past the obstacle.
