maxima's acting up
My 95 auto maxima 130k wont start and the car is completely dead. I have a completely new battery in the car, my alternator checks out fine, but my battery only lasts for like a week tops. I have taken my battery out, got it recharged and put it back in like 4 times now. auto zone says they dont know whats wrong, and it might be the serpentine belts,,,my serpentine belts to need to be replaced, but how would they have anything to do with the battery? everything is stock on the car, what other than the serpentine belts could be wrong with my car?
wi know crap about cars, but personal experience i have dealt with. On my old saturn, the same thing happened, i replaced alternator, starter, turned out my actualy wiring to the battery was faulty and would drain a little bit of power every time the car was off until it would not turn back on. i left it sitting for 2 days one week, and guess what.. no start..
check out the actualy wiring. saturn had to replace mine.

Your serpentine belt spins the alternator. If it's slipping real bad, then your alternator won't charge your battery well.
Buy a Hayes manual, and read the section on replacing the serpintine belt.
Takes 20 minutes, and it's worth a try.
But personally, I htink your alternator is foobared.

Definitely don't discount the possibility of a bad battery ground wire
-or positive battery lead. Either of those could result in the problems you're experiencing. Look for corrosion & try to bend the cables a little to check their condition.
I helped a friend replace his positive cable once & he was having the same symptoms - the copper wires inside the insulation just crumbled to dust in a few places when the cable was bent - a sure indication of the source of the problem.
New cable, no problem.
Good luck!

It sounds like an alternator form the description...starters usually make some noise before they die completely. Also check battery connections as suggested. The Hayes or Chiltons can teach you how to change the belts.

It made a sound.
It sounded JUST like my V1 SC does now.
i was actually thinking about a bad ground wire, but i'm not very good with cars and dont know how to check it...do i just check if its connected securely or is there something else?
to dpassino:
that's exactly what's happening , i didnt drive for 2 days, and when i woke up in the morning to start it, what do you know...NOTHING
to 95max:
battery is brand new and just came off the line ( i was thinking dead cell at first, but when i got it recharged the mechanic proved me wrong) , its a diehard with 72 month warranty, theres no corrosion on the connectors.
Thanks for all your help. I really really appreciate it. I'll let you know if the wiring is the problem.
