spark plug problems :(

hey fellas, just look for some advice here. when i went to change my spark plugs, the boot was full of oil! it had leaked down into the plug and the damn plug was full of oil. there was oil everywhere, like the damn exxon crashed into it!

anyway, its only on i believe 2 holes, 2 of the back ones. i cleaned it up the best i could and threw them back in. the car was running better with the plugs, but anyhow, i dont know how the car was firing with all that damn oil. every once in a while, while im in idle, the car will "putt putt putt" a little bit.

any suggestions?

its a 95 maxima se btw

Sounds like the spark plug seals on those two are leaking.

You'll need to get the valve cover gasket and all 3 spark plug seals replaced. Do it ASAP..

It's not the head gasket!!

It's the valve cover gasket set he needs. I don't know if Nissan sells only one side or just the complete kit.

Hey man dont worry all it takes is about 20 bucks for the seals... i just got done doing mine about 6 months ago.... you can buy a complete set for about 60-70 bucks if you want to go ahead and do both sides thats what i did just for the fact when i took everything apart all the seals were getting cracked anyway plus its worth the extra cash to go ahead and do it while you got the car apart. the back one is a ***** though... make sure you got a haynes manual though... helped me out alot. If I can help ya just email me and ill try to help as much as possible.

probably might be kind of nasty

i had that same problem with my totaled max and i remember getting a cylinder 3 misfire. I bet you if your CEL light is one now, u hav a misfire on that specific cylinder. It hurt the performance of my car as well by a little bit.

car was still driveable but it was nasty.

get some of that silicon gasket or whatever its called. You just squeeze it on there and put the VC back on and problem solved.
