Re: Cleaning inside your headlight housings

I recently tried to clean the inside of my passenger side foglight--it was kind of foggy since it had a little crack in it and was noticeably dingy compared to the other side. I used non-ammonia glass cleaner that supposedly leaves no streaks. Well, after I swirled it around, I noticed the metallic reflector was flaking off! Apparently the shiny relector along the back was a reflective coating and now it is ruined! Short of taking apart the unit (after heating), I don't recommend cleaning the things.

Hows this one- you take one of those spot free dish washer rinser chemicals let JET and wash out your headlights. I learned this one from a historic car collector. It will get it spotless. And then use hairdryer to dry the lens and immediately put in the bulb so it will not get contaminated. I dunno what effect it may have on the chrome though but it should be OK.

you should try paint polish. If u rub it really hard with a soft towel you will get great results. They will look cleaner and shinier.
