CV joint woes

changing out my shocks with jay 25, after removing the stripped bolt on the front shock, and then removing the shock, and putting in the new agx, the rotor assembly that swings into the strut refuses to go in. Upon closer examination, the boot closest to the transmission is overly stretched, when playing around with it, it seems as if something disconeected in teh boot. Is there a way to fix this or do I have take apart the cv joint and replace with a new one. I really hope not, i just did the cv joint on my other car and it was hell. Guys, let me know, i can't believe that it just happened this way, none of teh boots are torn, everything was fine, what shall I do?

Your CV joint has seperated. Remove the silver band securing the boot to the hub and take the boot off. WARNING THIS IS MESSEY! Once you get that boot off, you'll see that the splined shaft has come out of the CV joint. You must put that shaft back in the joint and press HARD until it clickes into place. There is a "C" clip that should hold that shaft in. After you do that, get a new CV boot clip (silver band) to secure the boot back onto the hub.

This is a messey job, try not to get the joint contaminated, make sure your hands are clean, use rubber gloves if you want. Try to keep as much grease in that joint as you can.

Good luck!

ok, I went to work on this, please someone confirm that everything is in tact. I folded back the inner boot and found that one of the spherical ***** was stuck in the connector preventing it from going in. I put the ball back in with the others, put in some grease and put it back, my only question is, when I seperated the axle, what was left on the part connected to the transmission was just hollowed out metal no kind of clamping as described by njmax. The whole connector came out with the side of the axle away from the trans, i just stick it back in after removing the ball. I just want to make sure I did this right, and that my axle is not broken because of the way it came apart. Please someone reply, thanks.

CORRECTION TO YOUR POST I NEVER EVER REMOVED YOUR FRONT SHOCKS, or assembled your front suspension, you mean your rear shock is the one I completely removed since you stripped that 17MM bolt and the top 12mm nut.

I removed only one Bolt that you stripped on the front shock and thats all.

I dont know what you did to the shock prior to me getting to your house. All I did was remove the stripped 19MM nut and Bolt. It was very very hard to come off.

Question?
1. How did you remove the shock from the car?
