Auto, manually shifting?

Ya I have beens so ****ed becuase autos suck *** right. Well I am tired of waiting for first gear to pick up on my Maxima, I have to wait till like 3200 rpms for it to pick up. So I have been shifting manually and woah my *** gets nailed in the seat, I love it. Will this mess up my transmission that much, I think it would be better becuase it keeps your car in the right gear but what do I know. Does anybody have any opinions on this. I have a warranty so I could care less about my transmission but do people see significant gains at the track, gas millage, ect. My friend said I would burn more gas doing that, something I don't want to do, I up to about $150-$200 dollars a month in gas.

You do burn more gas and u dont even go that much faster. goto the track and you'll see what i mean. I thought manually shifting is faster cuz it feels faster but its virtually the same thing. Let your auto do the shifting thats what its made for. I was thinking of a VB mod or a 5 speed conversion. My budget isnt up to task for a 5 speed so Im going for the VB mod. I heard good things about it.

they also said that the VB doesnt help with track times but prolongs tranny life so.......5speed conversion

When I race though, if I manually shift, I accelerate alot faster especially in first gear. I think if I went to the track I could get better times manually shifting becuase I can feel it. But will it har my transmission, a little or alot.

The key word is "think." Let your auto tranny do the shifting. The only reason why you won't leave it in D is when you autocross. While auto crossing, you might want to leave it in 2 or maybe even 1 depending on where the event is held and the straights of the track.

Lucky. When I downshift from any gear (D, 2) into a lower one (2, 1..), the car gets the worst hiccup I've ever seen. It's like a slowmotion belch/barf on drugs. And just about every maxima I've asked someone to do it in has done the same thing.

If you think that manually shifting is that much better, then go to the track and find out for sure. You will be surprised how if you leave it in D and let the computer shift at the perfect points, you will get your best times. But, it's so close that it's hard to prove which method is better. I've experimented with this for a long time now and on average, the "D" is more consistantly better than manually shifting.

Also, of course the valve body mod helps your 1/4 mile time. If you've ever driven a car with a VB mod, then you will know what i'm talking about.
