Those with FSM's please help

I pulled a code last night on my car, and it is 0214 - EVAP canister purge volume control valve or circuit fault.

When I looked it up in my Haynes manual, they referred to a canister right under the throttle body. However, when I went to the dealership today to purchase the parts, the parts guy sold me EVAP parts that go near the gas tank.

If I'm getting 0214, which EVAP canister are they talking about, the one near the throttle body, or the one near the gas tank?

According to my 1999 FSM the code you mentioned 0214 is DTC P1444 in the FSM. The information is on pages EC459-EC465 and mentions checks for (what looks like) the front EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve (on top of the intake manifold).

I don't have access to a scanner, but if you need more info let me know.

I took a look at my engine bay compared to my Haynes, and it looks different. Where in the Haynes there is a little canister, there is not in my engine bay. According to the dealership, the canister that the Haynes says I need to replace, was only used until 95. Instead, they said I needed to replace the EVAP canister with valve at the rear of the car.

I am totally confused. According to the FSM the parts guy had, my engine should not have the evap the Haynes says I should have. And the EVAP piece the dealership says I need to replace, the Haynes makes no mention of, though I know i have it. It is located on the opposite side of the rear as the muffler. Basically, walk to the back driver side of the car, kneel down, and look under the bumper. That black box like thing, with the valve on the front of it, is what the dealership says I need.

I have the 98 FSM. It says that the purge volume control valve is in the engine bay. The EVAP canister and the EVAP canister vent control valve are under the rear left tire. PM me your e-mail address and I can send you the reference page.
