CAI...is your filter smashed against the fender wall = less air???

Well i wanted to post this earlier and after reading a CAI i decided to do so. Anway my question is if any of you other guys' filter is partly smahed up against the inner fender wall of the left tire? I ask this becasue it seem like it could block some of the airflow? If anyone else has noticed this what did u guys do about it?

originally when I had CAI with the huge monsterflow filter, it was hitting the fenderwell alot so I made the hole bigger(oval shaped) so I can move the pipe more away from the fenderwell. Or maybe you can get a smaller diameter size K&N like they used to sell with CAIs

This was what I posted on another thread regarding intake comparisons from Honda Tuning.

-What I feel would hold an intake back most would be the filter and availability of air. This is why closed hood dyno's should be performed. If the hood is open regardless of underhood temps (which I agree with Honda Tuning, because the whole debate from the RSX community is that with the large open ports found on the front of the RSX, HAI intakes will pull in cool air just like CAI once you start moving, that was not true for the well ventalated RSX, and it definatly would not be true from the all encompassing radiator, and undercar covering that I have seen on the max.) you have given the intake a huge source of air. Since air flows from it's least restrictive source, I'll bet most of it comes from over the hood when HAI are dynoed (but HAI's would be pulling air in from the small cramped space of the engine bay, where hot air is circulating, (put a blanket over your head and breath))
This is the exact reason why I think the CAI starts to cough in the high end. It is encompassed by the fender well (try breathing outside, and try breathing outside with a helmet on)

This is the only thing that has held me back from getting the CAI. Although I feel it is a superior design, I worry about how the small space of the fender well may impede needed air.

I've got about a 1" space between my filter and the fender wall... but at the angle the filter is set at, the upper rubber lip of the filter is resting/leaning on the fender wall; I wouldn't say it's "smashed up" against it. It's hard to say if this causes a performance hit. I think you can play with the angling enough so that the filter sits slightly away from the fender wall, but considering that there's only so much space in there, you probably won't see that much of a difference.

This is easily remedied by cutting a suitably sized hole (about 5 square inches) in the plastic piece at the bottom of the fender well.

What about the sides of the filter. Most filters that I see draw air in from the sides of the filter. The pictures of the PRCAI show that the filter sits top down, I was wondering if the sides of the filter rest against the sides of the fender well. If this is true than I would want to open up the sides of the fender well (I don't know how you would do this and still protect the filter, other than if the fog light hole is a straight shot to the fender well, but I have fog lights so I can't do this) to take full advantage of all the surface area of the filter. I can tell that the filter sits against the plastic liner of the wheel well, what is it like on the other side where the fog light is located, is it open?

i just got the place racing intake

the monster flow filter it pretty big and, after looking up into the wheel well, it didnt seem like the filter was touching anything, its just so perfect.
