New 99 SE 5speed...what to do what to do?

OK. After 2 months of searching and searching for the "perfect car" i found it and couldnt afford the 2003 6 spd Max. So i found a 99 SE with 75k on it goin for 10Gs and couldnt pass it up. I love my ride and im just now getting over my jealousy of all those queer old women driving around there poor, misused 2000+ Max's

SO here is my dilemma.

I cant spend a shipload of money. But i want some quick HP upgrades. I should replace the intake thats already in there cuz it looks pretty beat on. And i want a new Exhaust. From my understanding these are the quickest and cheapest ways to get not only some quick HP, but some sweet sound too. So what brands of Intake and Exhaust Systems will give me the best Bang for my Buck. I dont live in GangstaVille or near the beach so i dont need anything too flash or Loud. Just, subtle Power, which is why i got the Max in the first place.

Ill leave it at that. Thanks for your help, my newfound brothers.

Forts

ANother thing..is EBAY a good source for parts? some of those "BUY IT NOW" prices just seem conspicucously LOW? Sketchy

Before rhe search ***** bash you, I would just say that there is an abundance of information concerning this in the FAQ on the top of this forum page as well as with using the search function.

Also, welcome.

An intake is an inexpensive mod which gives you about 5-10 hp. As for the catback, the gains are only about 5hp and a good setup will cost you about $450. The best mod is a y-pipe (about $300) which will give you about 15-20 hp. Welcome to the org and happy modding!

Intakes are easy to search for, so that is a done deal. Generally, it is thought that the "Budget" Y-pipe is the best bang for the buck @ $160. Search for how/where to buy. Cat-back will not net you much HP, maybe 5 at most. I hear even 1-2 are more common. BUT the y-pipe and intake can let loose 15+ HP for around $250, so I would start there.

Other cheap things: FSTB ($20-$200), RSB9 ($115-$230)- but both are handling mods.

About eBay, if you have a question, ask on here, or better yet, search then ask. Most things on eBay have been discussed here. eBay is known to be a cheap place for FSTBs.

Next steps will depend on budget and what yo uwant out of the car, but that is a starting point...

AHh...i thought the FSTB in my car came with all Maximas. Bonus for me then. As a used car i am going to throw it into service for a complete overhaul before the Winter. (even though the dealer said he did) my "service engine soon" light is on so i assume (hope) that it just needs to be reset.

I'll have them throw in some new sparkies too. NGK sounds like the way to go from what i gathered.

anyone know of any good packages out there for y-pipe and exhaust combos? if you havent noticed already, up until i bought my Maxima, i didnt know Squat About cars. So ive been reading posts for 2 weeks straight now trying to learn me some.

thx again

reading your check engine light and changing the spark plugs is something you can do yourself, even if you don't have much experience working on cars. It will also save you money. Read the FAQ and do a search on changing the plugs.
