Any way to add colored light to stock SE gauges?

Is there any way to change the (with clearance lights on) color of light of the stock SE gauges (bulb, new LED) besides getting a whole new set of gauge faces?

You can rip it all apart and replace the LED up in back to a color of your choice. I believe there is a how-to on maximadriver.com.

I just checked it out, and wow, what a pain in the a$$. Looks like more trouble than it's worth. I think I'll pass on that one (I know, sackless). I would have never guessed, there is so much the gauges.

its really not that hard...no more than a 10 minute job after youve done it a few times....ive taken mine apart 3 times, a friends max apart once, and my friends teg apart once....took us less than 30 minutes to do my friends max's gauges AND his auto shifter bulb.....its really worth it, and very simple to do, all you really need is a magnetic screw driver....dont wanna lose those screws

It's very simple.........if you have done mods previously, this is a one-man job that can be done on your lunch break, while eating

i am assuming so there are actually bulbs vs glo/EL material.

What size bulb? Where is it located in relation to the gauges? If you guys say it's that easy, I may try it after all.

But wait, I was thinking of going green. Is that what color you did? How does it look?

its a 194 wedge bulb. Same bulb used in the lower clearance lights next to the blinker lenses on the bumper. Youd have to do a search on how to remove the gauges, cause it can be a lil tricky if your doing it for your first time.

You will need 5 bulbs to replace the one's in the stock gauge cluster. Get 3 pairs and use the extra to replace the bulb in center shift console.

95-97's require #194 bulbs
Some 98's use #194 bulbs
Some 98's use #74 bulbs
99's use #74 bulbs (smaller than #194)

I've seen the #194 bulbs in clear, superwhite, blue, purple, green, amber, and red.
Try www.midnightmoose.com In their Marker lights section.
Careful with the 194's. Some of the one's sold have extra large bulbs that won't fit in the holes in the gauge cluster.

Haven't done any research on the #74 bulbs.

Good luck.

you can use whatever color you choose, as long as you use the 194 wedges, or if you get LED's and get em into a 194 socket or whatever....in relation to where they are in the gauges, there will be one behind the Fuel area, another behind the the left side of the speedo, one in between the speedo and tach, another on the right side of the tach, and nother on the temp gauge...i used 3 Blues on the left, and 2 reds on the right...this effect causes a sort of purplish color around 5900-6200 rpm's....perfect because if your in those heavy battles at night, its an shiftlight for you (when it gets to purple, shift ) ....but since im auto,

I did these with 194 1-LEDs .. if you use the 4-LEDs, you will get hot spots. I just wish it were a tad brighter, but I could live with it. Pic (crappy quality, sorry) is one I took at night. Higher res pic I have at home BUT my computer crapped out and I'm also in Japan, can't get it. Somebody on the org might have a high res pic I sent to them some time ago.

At some point, they changed the meter bulbs (I think it might have been from 1997 or 1998) so you might be SOL. If you have a 95-96, you will be alright. (Edit: JPMax already posted this fact)

Found a place that's got 194 LED's really cheap.

$1.59 for single LED per bulb
$2.59 for 4 LED per bulb

www.superbrightleds.com

ordered 5 of each in blue to try out next weekend.

i think if you leave them on the brightest setting all the time, they will burn out soon. i leave mine around halfway, which is bright enough for me, and have had no problems yet.

dam...i want to do this but i want to see a real good quality pic...also i would keep my dim all the way up because the clock isn't visible that much if it isn't...anyway to work from this? like a way to make the clock stay its brightest all the time...sounds possible, like splice a wire somewhere or something...

There is a a way to rewire the clock to stay bright. Check out the How To section on www.vqpower.com

You can check www.Maximadriver.com in the How to section.

The procedure for installing the LEDs is similar to installing gauges. Pretty much do everything the same except change bulbs instead of gauge faces.

The write up there for the door switches is for 95-96 only though. But it might give you some insight.
