I am going to be ordering my budget Y-Pipe for my (unfortunatly Cali Spec) Max quite soon, and was wondering what is the best coating to get? I do live in an area with snow, but I really dont take the car out that much anyway, and will hardly ever be driving in the winter.
Thanks,
Dan

I saw a thread that Budget is building a special y-pipe just for the 99 cali spec max coming out in spring. Just wait for that and get the most of the y-pipe instead of the one they have now.

budget guy told me that it would just be an extension peice on the current 99 cali spec y pipe, and that you could retro fit it.

I live in the Chicago Area...
2-4 feet of Snow, -45 wind Chill, Slush, Major Salting!...I coated my Warpspeed Ypipe with Ceramic High Temp Paint (3 coats) it looks like it did from day one. I also coated my steel wheels with the Gloss Black Ceramic Paint. They still have gloss! It is amazing paint. It is the 1500 degrees ceramic paint and NOT the 500 degree paint. Purchased at Pep boys.

Just paint the sucker with hi-temp engine paint every year.

If you're willing to spend the money, get it Jet-Hot coated. (you don't need anything fancy, like Swaintech or other coatings-- a decent ceramic coating is enough). It won't be cheap though as it's by length... probably at least $60-80, I'd think. At that price, might as well buy a stainless steel y-pipe...

Look at budgets web site the pipes are stainless steel. No rust worries

meaning if you buy a pipe now you can modify it when the new peice comes out, instead of replacing it

The Budget Y pipes come already painted. From what I hear, the paint isn't high heat variety. It burns off in a week or so depending on how much you drive. They probably just paint it for added protection during shipping. And it makes it look nice..

Anyway, if you are planning to paint the Y pipe, you'll need to wait til the original coat burns off. Or maybe see if they'll ship you one without the paint.

I used PlastiCote 1500 degree paint on my whole exhaust when I installed it a month ago. Still looks great. Stuff goes on pretty thin so you'll need to do 4 or 5 coats. Seems only Pepboys carries this stuff in my area.

Good luck.

Does that mean it would make it smog legal for Cali?
