downshift on a manual

Is it bad on your auto tranny to downshift to slow down?

Yes it is. On a 4th gen maxima, I really wouldn't recomend downshifting your automatic. You're just asking for tranny problems down the line. Just keep it in Drive and let your car do the work for you.
