The plug debate one more time......how 'bout AC-DELCO ??

There seems to be no reference to ac-delco platinum plugs in a serch of the 4th Gen archives (you can't flame me too bad given that i searched first). How 'bout it....any one try them? The delco part number is 41-800. Are delco plugs made by some one else? I have delco plugs in my tahoe, and they look just like an NGK in term of electrode design (platinum on both sides and the electrode point shape). They have performed well for me over the past 70K in that vehicle.....at $6 a piece for the maxima part number I am curious if they are worth considering...otherwise its NGK coppers for my Max (which by the way are $1.65 each at autopartsgiant.com).

And for some of you loyal Bosch people....save your fingers for changing out those damn plugs....I am not interested....(does this get me some point back for start this debate again...??..ha!)

I'd just go with the NGK Coppers. $1.65 a piece vs $6? NGK Coppers will last you 30K, platinum plugs are supposed to be replaced every 60K (at least the NGKs are). So 2 NGK coppers = 1 NGK platinum in terms of longevity, yet you are still saving mucho dinero, not to mention copper is a better conductor (conducter? that word's always thrown me off) than platinum is anyway so you'll get better performance (however minimal the difference might be).

I still like platinum plugs because the wear (or gap change) is almost zero for that life, and I don't have to screw with changing them as often...time = $ ya know. copper plug performance tends to degrade, but, is it that performance begins degrading at 30K with copper, or they show noticable signs before then and 30K is a good time to change them out...you could save a ton of money even changing every 20K.

I just can't stomach $65 for a set of plugs...$36 i can.....but $10 is killer.

anyway, if no one has tried delco's, i might, just so we can all benefit from know if they are worth anything....

It takes only five to ten minutes to change plugs .. Your not losing much time or money with changing them more.

...... im gonna freak out if i see another debate on this subject!!!
just use whats reccomended by NISSAN: NGK Platinum tips!!

i mean what the big deal if you dish out the extra dough for the reccomended plugs, you only do it every 60,000 miles for gods sake!!

my max just rolled 106k the other day and i plan on changing out all the coil packs and my NGK's as well. And yes i did do the 60k tune up, way back when

Are you changing them just cause they are old or because they are going?

i got a code the other day for a faulty pack and or miss firing cylinders (2 of them). Had the exact prob a yr ago and a new rear coil pack did the trick!

And plus the things have over 100k on them, so im sure wont a hurt a thing to change them out while im doin my plugs.

Yeah your right, if it seems like they are all going might just be easier to do it in one shot and have them all set for another 100K

Thread resurrection from the past much?

I'd recommend sticking with NGK's for Nissans. Just because that's what they roll out of the factory with. I've used NGK-R's in both my G and my Frontier with no issues whatsoever.

Ngk makes AC delco anyway. The ceramic is marked AC delco while the metal part is stamped NGK.

Realistically speaking, putting a plug in other than what Nissan put in @ the factory is absurd. 1st the tendency to ignore the service intervals is greater when you put a longer lasting plug in and 2nd putting a costlier plug in is just a waste of money. especially since no real world performance is going to be seen unless this is a street/drag car where a tenth of a HP is going to make a tenth of a second of Pass time. Stick with the factory recommendation; your car and your wallet will thank you.

Bosch is hit and miss. A friend of mine bough 100 NGK plugs and about 80 of them were bad so NGK is not perfect either. I think next time I am going with the coppers as I keep up with my maintenance
