Alignment with conversion

Will do the 5speed conversion require me to get another alignment or will it not affect my alignment?

People dont need it after a clutch swap, and you pretty much remove the axles and tranny the same way for that. So I would say No.

Actually, yes you should get an alignment, since you are removing part of the suspension (lower bolts), replacing the axles, etc, I would strongly recommend it...

If you remove the strut to do the tranny swap, then you need to have the alignment set again.

This comes up quite often and I'm puzzled with the responses. The FSM says that alignment is preset at the factory, and the use of close fitting shoulder bolts at the struts prevents any gross misalignment when you remove the bolts and reinstall them. There isn't even any provision for making alignment changes, unless you get aftermarket camber plates.

My personal experience is I've never needed an alignment done after removing the struts, and I've had them out three times. The car tracks exactly the same (i.e. straight ahead) before and after every time.

All I know is my alignment was close, but slightly out of spec after the conversion, and I know for a fact it was in before...

How strange. Maybe there was enough clearance at the strut bolts so that you were slightly out of spec? I think I've heard of this happening before.
