drive belt replacement

Good afternoon,
I would like some help in replacing the drive belt. My Nissan Dealership wants $150 to replace it and I want to do it myself. I did the search and they were referring to the Megamax site, which is offline. Does anyone have website w/ detailed instructions to guide me?
Lots of thanks,
Chan

I tried looking at other sites and I couldn't find one with detailed pictures or a write-up at this time. I guess the best thing to do is to invest in a Haynes Manual. I know that this isn't an exact answer, but it has detailed pictures with a write-up. Sorry.....

What is the drive belt? What would the dealership be doing that would cost so much to replace. My friend said he had to get his replaced but it wouldcost $300 to get it fixed. And I guess the dealership told him that if he didn't get it fixed that it could screw up his pistons if it blew.

What your friend is referring to is the timing belt. We do not have a timing belt, we have a timing chain. Basically, your car will rust out and fall apart before your timing chain EVER needs replaced.

The drive belt on our car is a multi-serpentine belt. It is "moved" by the crankshaft pulley and it powers the alternator, A/C compressor, etc. The process is very easy and shouldn't take more than 20 minutes to replace on your first time. Now, dealing with the power steering belt can be a bit more tricky. But it is again covered in the Haynes Manual. Go to your local Autozone, Pepboys, Advanced Auto, etc. and spend about $15.00 on a Haynes Manual. Trust me, with a set of sockets and a ratchet, you can do this in 30 minutes tops.

Re: drive belt replacement

The Haynes manual has good pictures but leaves out a few critical steps.

While replacing the main drive belt, loosen the bolt in the center of the tension pulley BEFORE loosening the tension adjuster.

While replacing the powersteering belt, there is a bolt that needs to be loosened on the front of the powersteering bracket before turning the tension adjuster. (A socket won't fit in there, so get a ratchet wrench)

Well that's what I thought but he keeps saying it's some drive belt. I told him to get me the part numbers so I can make sure of it. Because that's BS if the dealership tries to make him fork out $300 on a job that I've done myself. That costed me like $10-$15 for the belt.
