So how many plan to move on to a 5th gen

We all love our 4th gen Max but 3, 4 or 5 years from now, when the time comes for a new ride, how many would stick to the Max and buy a 5th gen (or what ever the latest Max is at that time).

I always thought that my next car would be a nice used 5th gen, but hanging out at the 5th gen board I've come across a lot of complaining about the build quality of their model (maybe cuz they are just elderly folks ). Although that has not detered me, I am just wondering how many people see themselves in a post 4th gen Max? Or do three letters come to mind...G35

Since when are 3 and 5 letters??? I think I might move up to the 5th gen once my 4th gen breaks 100k miles. It has crossed my mind, but so hasn't another 3 letters....QX4

A friend told me that Nissan was redesigning the Max again for next year and possibly throwing in a V8 If he's right, I may want a 5/6th gen. Right now though I think I'd pick the Altima over the Max. I hate to say it but... Aside from being a loyal Nissan fan I am really falling in love w/ Rally and would consider an all wheeel drive, turboed car next. That is, if I don't get a truck. Either way, I'm keeping my beloved 4th gen.

No 5th gen for me. The 4th gen is a great car and I got mine for 10k, but I think I want something that handles better next time around. I still plan on keeping this car for the duration though. If I was to buy a new car, it would be a 2004 WRX. Those look nice.

Nope....Id rather have a "Japanese supercar" Like a 300ZX TT, Supra, or Skyline Or a G35 or 350Z would be great. I need a car with much more power!

All I ever wanted was a 2K2 or 2K3 in silver/pewter paint, dark interior and in stick.

Can't wait to get enough money.

i love to daydream about just dumping my 99 SEL and getting into a 2003 MAX or G35.. which i could easily do.. but then when you get the the 2003, after a year, you'll want something else.. i think i'm going to keep daydreaming about owning all the cars i like on the road.. as for my 99 4th gen... i'll be driving that 'till the wheels fall off.. it's paid for and it fills my needs...
i'll daydream about a 2003 Max, a G35, a 330CI, an E55, an M5, Lamborghini Murcielago... to name a few.

yea i would want to get the 2k3 max. I think nissan did a nice job upgrading the 4th gen. With a 6 speed manual! I dont like nissan making the maxima into a bigger car and move away from the sport car sedan logo...not a good move nissan! what about the max's younger drivers? Nissan needs to rethink the max's position here.

Have you test driven a G35 coupe yet? I was super excited and just about ready to plunk down my money on one - until I went to check them out. I was very disappointed at how cramped it was - front and rear seats. My old twin turbo Z had much more front seat room and was significantly more comfortable. My old 2+2 Z had noticeably more headroom in the back. I'm only 5'-6" and I can't stand how cramped it was. I don't see how people 6 feet tall would feel comfortable in one.

Sure the G35C is a very nice looking and driving car, but I can't get over how unergonomic the whole layout of the interior was - not to mention the cheap plastic wannabe "titanium" trim. It's a pity that they put real aluminum trim in the Nissan Murano, but use cheap, fake plastic titanium in the Infiniti G35C.

I was very underwhelmed by the G35.

My next car will be a MT G35 (whenever it comes out next year) or a 6MT G35coupe. Haven't made up my mind yet, but I'm leaning towards the sedan.

When I bought my 4th gen I thought the performance would help me forget about the sedany aspects of the car...

But I still yearn for a different ride/better handling. I think the size of the 5th gens and suspension mean a no go for me. Plus I dunno how I could get over that rear-end..

While I still like the max and admire it for the smooth VQ, I don't think I'll be interested in another one.

No 5th gen Maxima for me. I just don't dig the 5th gen bodystyle. Somehow it looks dated. The only thing I like are headlights and certain aspects of the interior.

I'll probably be getting a used G35 sedan, Golf GTI, or a WRX. It all just depends on how much I'm willing to spend on a used car.

i don't think a 5th gen is in my future. my 3rd gen was a great college car...cheap and pretty sporty. my current 4th gen is faster but too soft for me in most aspects.

IF i have the money, my next car will be a slightly used coupe, manual transmission, rear wheel drive (the way it was meant to be!), and will have a blue/white roundel on the hood.

if not, i'd probably go with a used I35 or G35.

5-th gen. Maxs are not as good as 4-th are. I guess because they are made in US now. and i personaly think that redesign is poor. for around 30Gs i would get G35, 3 Series, or 3.2CL-S.

Newer doesn't always mean better and that is obviously the case here in reading the comments of about the 5th Generation Maxima's. I think this is case with most "newer" car nowadays. Remember the old saying "they just don't build them like they used to". I agree with this 100%. There are much better cars out there than the Maxima, much better "used" cars at that. For instance, the Acura Legend (no longer made). The Legend has always been faster than the Max and much more reliable. I have friends that swear by this car and have stated that they have never had a problem with the Acura Legend. They state that it is built solid with lots of quality. Looking around to buy a Legend? They are hard to find! Maxima's are way over rated. There are too many good choices available out there than to run out and buy a Maxima...again.

Legend is a great car, but not many people will buy an 8 year old vehicle. No metter how good it is, years and miles do it's job.

I don't ever plan on selling my Max. I will keep it as either a daily driver or something. But my next car will probably be a GMC Syclone or a Typhoon.

It'll either be a new Max, an Acura TL or a used V-8 Lincoln LS. I'll admit, I haven't done much research on the two latter cars. They might be junk, I don't know. I'll figure that out when the day comes. I sure would like to have a midsize rear drive V-8 sedan though...

I want to keep mine for at least a few more years. I really like it and this way I can have a good sum of cash when I go to by my next one. I think if after I have my car paid off and really want something new maybe I will turbo it to hold me over

It would be hard to tell since my brother still has my SE since his '01.5 Passat blew an oil pump a few weeks ago, but w/ me & my family moving within the metro Detroit area and whatever job/financial situation I'm in, I'd prob. have to settle for an '03 Altima 2.5S or 2.5SL to be safe, unless there's some impressive financing/rebates going on w/ a 2K3 Max since there's a preview of the '04 Max at Nissan's website.

IMO the '04 Max looks sweet in the back but kinda looks a 'lil like the newer ALtima's up front, bet there's gonna be some serious power when the '04 Max's come out

right now, my car is paid off. i would love to step into a new car, but would rather save my money for a house or something when i get older(don't want an apartment, waste of money). anyway, i could sell my 97 se that i got in august of last year, but i like it a lot.

I feel the same way. And plus if I do want more power or somethign and go for the turbo I figure it will be spending 3.5K or so instead of 25K.

If I had to get a new car today the 2002/2003 Max would be very tempting. From what I have read the base SE is going for about $22K and it seems like you are getting a lot of car for that money.

I will probably still want a practical 4 door in a few years and if I still want something powerful and sporty I will definatly go with something RWD. The G35 looks very tempting from the reviews I have read and because it is so similer to the new Z the aftermarket should be huge.

What the crap!!!

I can't believe some of the stuff you guys are saying on here at the "maxima forum" just in case you've forgotton... i mean come on, one person comparing 4th gen max to an 91-95 legend? They were nice cars for the days but doen't come close in perf. to a maxima unless it was a 6sp. coupe which are 10 times harder to come by that a 5 sp. max. Also I understand everyone's entitled to their own opinions but some of the cars you guys want to change the max for is ridiculus, like a suv, chev, pontiac, ...?? lets keep those to our selves.

also one more thing the original question of this thread was How many people would upgrade to a 5th gen? not wrx, turbos, legends, or what not.

Ya know, I've had 4 GMC Jimmies and they're great trucks. I would have loved to have a Typhoon, but way too much $ for what they are...just my opinion, but I do like them.
