Hey guys---I had a car starter installed in my 96 I30 today. I heard they were a pain with the factory alarm--but that wasn't true. The guy came to my house (in 20 degree weather) and did it while I waited. He was done in an hour, and it came out PERFECT! Everything but the window rolldown is on the new remote---even remote trunk! He charged me 200.
If any of you are in MA and want a starter/or alarm I HIGHLY reccomend this guy. He will come right to your house and do it there. I met hiim through my DSM car club as he does everyones 12V work.

If any of you need his info--email me off list.

I'll definately consider this..What kinda options does your remote starter have?

Not sure what you mean by options--I guess it is bare bones for the price he charges. Mine retains all the features of the factory alarm/keyless entry and trunk pop--sam as before--but on a different remote. The only feature I lost was the rolling windows down remotely--but that is useless anyways. The only options I gained were remote start and central remote lock/unlock. Where as before I had to press the unlock button 2x to unlock all doors, one tap locks/unlocks all 4 now. I like that.

things such as range, different times you can have it running for before it shuts off, drain on the battery, etc.

Mine runs for 15 min or so then shuts off. That is all I know about it. Anyways--if you decide to set it up--email me private and I will get you his info. I don't want to post it here for people to email him with all sorts of questions--he only makes 50 on the install---so to answer a bunch of questions about them isn't in his best interest. I was just very happy with the install and thought I would let people know about him so they can save a c-note over circuit city's prices---plus go there with a 5 speed and ask for a starter and see what they say :^)

$200 for all the features you got is a good price. I'm glad you're happy with it. What brand/model is it?
darn automatics...I can't wait to install my starter on my 5sp. It's gonna take some nice tricks to make the NPS work.

DEI is the brand. I think it is the company that makes Viper? He installed a viper alarm/starter in my DSM last winter--and the remotes said DEI--but the control box said viper and it was in a viper box.
