Yellow foglamps, what do you think?

You have all seen them on Lexus' IS 300 and GS 300 and on lots of old european cars. Does anyone have pics of them on a maxima? I have been considering it for awhile but I think it may look tacky.

My fogs are yellow too. I bought the Philips All-weather H3's. I just wish our foglamps were better in the fog. They look nice, but their function sucks.

I thought fogs are suppose to be yellow in color to be most effective.

You are correct sir. The reason it's hard to see at night in the fog (other than the obvious) is because your own headlights blind you by illuminating the fog. Yellow light doesn't make the fog "as bright" and are lower than standard lights, in order to get under the fog.
Yellow is the best.

How much are the Philips All-weather H3's? And where did you pick yours up at? I have been unable to find a foglight that lasts longer than 1 year before one of the two blows out. My PIAA super whites blew out after 1 year and a pair of old Catz I have had blew out last night. They lasted overall longer than the PIAA's. Do the Philips bulbs last longer? I'd either like yellow or match my Silverstars.

You thought right. Yellow, because it is low in frequency on the visible light spectrum (only red and orange are lower), is not as readily diffracted and reflected by moisture in the air. These drops of moisture (whether it be from fog or rain) act as little lenses. This is why HIDs actually put out much more "back glare"; their purple/violet color is much higher in frequency.

Because of this reason, I've been running these in my headlamps: http://www.autolamps-online.com/halo...thercentre.htm
They work great in the rain and in snow, give me a good contrast between the road directly in front of the car and the road ahead.

I'm running H3 Allweather for my fogs and got them from Autolamps too. FREE SHIPPING and it gets to you in about a week from abroad. THey are not as yellow as the IS300 but I think they are much brighter too. I like the contrast between my very white headlamps and the yellow fogs although I only turn the fogs on when the weather is bad...

Why cant we take the fogs of IS300 and mount them on our cars? I have seen this done on S14(240sx).

If S4 headlights and Skyline taillights can be mounted on a Maxima, then so can IS300 foglights.

It just depends on how much money you're willing to fork over to a shop to do the work.

What type of paint did you use? Got any pics? I was thinking about this too, but I felt that the fogs simply burned too hot for this to work. I mean, doesn't the paint burn from the heat?

I don't know...I think those yellow fogs are oogly. I found that the visibility was the best with PIAA 55 watt H3'a, and I didn't "taint" my light any with that yellow color.

Function. I have Hella Optilux foglights (~$40) for driving in the fog (they illuminate yellow) and some other kind of white bulbs in the stock foglights for use as driving lights in other conditions.

Ditto

It's all about function for me. I live a half mile from the beach and I drive up PCH to go to school, down PCH to go surfing, shopping, etc. With the amount of fog that rolls in lately, yellow fogs are the way to go. I have overwattaged "blue-xenon" headlight bulbs and they don't help at all in the fog.

95maxima: I have clear bumper lenses (think I was one of the first to have them). I later installed the amber bulbs to help make the blinker more visible during the day. In fact, I'm even thinking about going back to the stock orange lenses. My Maxima's white, lowered, with a lip. I think I might have too much white and clear going on. You're right though, everyone has their opinion.

But I think the yellow fogs with the HID or even the "HID" creates a really cool contrast. Makes the headlights look more intense and the fog lights even more yellow.

Yellow fogs = ugly

Even though they may be effective and all this mumbo you guys are saying, they still look terrible. Evry lexus I see at night makes me cringe. Maybe it's just me.

As already stated, yellow fogs work better.
I have Hella yellow star bulbs in my fogs.
But the stock lenses are clear
so I don't know what the problem is, clear corners or not.
They only look yellow when they are on and I choose safety over looks.
Who can tell anyhting about your car in the fog anyway?
I did the fog light rewire though.
I mean, the point of fog lights is to see better in the fog.
So it doesn't matter what color your fog lights are if your headlights are on and giving you back-glare.
Yellow bulbs, clear lenses, foglight rewire, good.

I'm trying to do the same setup as IS300. I have purple HIDs and bought the PIAA ion crystals. The output of the bulbs is
yellowish/greenish, especially the right one. So its not nearly bright yellow as the IS. Is it the piaa bulb or the way the bulb is positioned in the fog, giving this yellowish/greenish output?

Im pretty sure it's the bulb. Anything with "Ion" in the name is likely to give a cascade of colors at certain angles. I have Ion Yellow bulbs from Eurolite and the color is the same effect as you described, however the yellow that is there is not very dominant. From what Im hearing so far, the only way to get that "IS300" look would be through a tinted foglight.

I have them but their not yellow, infact their britghter than stocks and makes the fog light super white. I have the 4400K H3's though, the 3300K are probably more yellow.

You got the super white that run at 4300K, I am talking about the ones that run at 3,300K.

Looks good but in the middle I see a white output. Is that how it looks, yellow around the edges and white in the middle? And what kind of paint did you use?

I have yellow fogs in my Acura 2.5TL, they are IN the headlight and look fabulous! The guys over at the TL board all take out the yellow "condom" that makes it emit yellow light...I personally think they look great!
