Headlight Wiring Harness Replacement needed, old 1 burning from new high watt bulbs!!
#1
Whats up! My lights kept on loosing contact and going off, finally I realized it was the harness. I looked at the part that attaches to the back of the bulbs, and half the plastic was melted. I have 85 Watt bulbs in there instead of 55watt, and i believe thats whats causing it! i need a replacement harness, probably one with own relay that handle the wattage... thanks for any help!!

Maybe... but are those upgrade harnesses?? or are they replacement of current ones?? cause the APC ones go for like $50 and they support more wattage....!!

But if i get just the plug... how will that prevent it from continuing to burn the plastic?

I had a problem like this....I replaced my stock headlight bulbs with xenon bulbs....a few week later one of the light kept kicking in and out....flickering...the plastic on the 9004 plug was burned so I replaced it. No problems after that....i think it burned because something got in there (water, piece of metal, etc) or because it was to much wattage and the plastic has a low melting point. Whatever it was, it has been fine since i replaced it...
If you think it is to much power and it is burning the plastic a new/better plug will probabily help. Replacing the entire wire harness is if you were blowing fuses...bigger wire means it handles more power and bigger fuses.... but it the plastic, not the wire that is the problem.
If you aren't sure, just buy the plug for $5 and if that burns out then you know can look into more expensive solutions

ummm...changing the plug isn't going to be your best solution in the long run...they will eventually melt too...and after changing it a few times you're at the cost of the new harness...
my advise to you is to get the harness if you are planning on running 85W bulbs and many other people here will tell you the same thing...the melting starts at the little plug and eventually leads to melting of the wires if it isn't caught soon enough...
the choice is yours but be wise in your decision...

How hard
If you get the upgrade harness do you have to remove the old or is the old one integrated into the whole unit.
