Ignition question

Okay, now I'm looking to get some 'spark' for my car. I know where I am going to get my NGK Platinums, but now I read a thing that says I don't need wires? Okay so I see my Max don't got wires on the outside, but what's this about coils? Can someone help? I never really addressed this question before, so I don't know.

the car does not need replacement wires as it is a direct ignition system; unless those little wires are actually cut, which would be disaster, you wouldn't need to replace them. Coil packs are...coil packs. Sometimes they can go bad and need to be replaced.

Here's a rough picture of how the ignition system is setup.
