Has anyone taken off their stock antenna and replaced it with that rubber one? I know people have, but have you put it above your rear window, in the middle like on the VW's. I think that would look nice on our cars. I don't know how to go about it though. Is it hard? Did you do it yourself? Is there a How-to anywhere? Thanks guys

I have an antenna in the top rear of my back window, but its not actually in use. It now remains as a useless appendage left over from my dad's hands free cell phone and signal booster. It looks pretty cool, but to me its useless and I can't exactly remove it now.

As for replacing the stock antenna, if you have a Bose system, don't bother doing this. The Bose system has a special system that uses two antennas to reduce radio noise. Replacing this antenna may affect your FM sound quality. If you don't have a Bose, do whatever. Installing an antenna will require drilling a hole in the glass of your window.

First, I think he's talking about the ooglie antennas like VW uses.

Second, glass mount antennas do not require a hole in the glass.

Third, all 4th gens have an antenna in the rear window and the one outside.

yeah, I'm talking about the look that has the antenna coming out of what looks like the roof just above the rear window......pretty sure it's not the glass. There's an antenna back there already? I don't have BOSE in my car, so if that makes a difference, then....there it is. But, how would I go about wiring that? Do you have any thoughts?

The antenna that is in the window looks like the window defroster stuff, except it doesn't heat up. If you don't have Bose, you may have the lines, but they probably arent' hooked up to anything.

Question: How does an antenna work if it doesn't have a direct conductive connection with the rest of the antenna system?

Crack Mack has done soemthing like this. He removed the metal antenna and replaced it with a rubber one (in the same spot). It looks like a Supra antenna. It's pretty cool actually. PM or search and he'll hook you up.
