Front Bumper Lens rewire - Edited

OK. I searched and found plenty on Fog Light Re-Wires and the Corner Lens rewires for 97-99 Max's. How about the marker lenses in the bumper? You know, the ones for the blinkers?

I was thinking of purchasing an 1157 socket to replace the stock 1156 socket. Can I simply attach the ground, the blinker wire to the 27 watt filament, and then run a wire from the sidemarker lens to the 8 watt filament wire? Sounds like it would work. If this has been done, please let me know, and I'll be happy to delete this thread to save everyones time.

David

EDITED : OK. Did it, and here it is.

I see. This will make the constant on side markers blink with your turns, but it wont keep you blinkers on while driving. That's more what I was looking for.

Ohh... I see... well if you want them on constant while driving you had the right idea in the first place... the 1157 bulb. I don't know of anyone that's done that though. You could probably run the high watt filament of the 1157 to the blinking signal wire and the low watt filament to the either your corner light(if it's not been rewired) or to your side marker.

I picked up the 1157 socket today. Tomorrow, my clears come in, and I plan on doing a full write up with pics on how to rewire the front bumper lenses with the 1157 socket. Should be pretty simple and straight forward. I'll do a full HTML file for a webpage, but I need someone to host it for me. If anyone is interested, PM me or e-mail me.

good job! In CA, I wouldn't do that...especially if you've got clear lens. I know someone who got pulled over for having the turn signal constantly on (like how you have it now). He was fined for having too many forward lights. Law says no more than 3 pairs of lights...but he had 4: headlight, corner light, fog light, and turn light (constant on). IMO, the cop was right. I also believe the cop should have had the owner turn off all the cars and shine his flashlight in each light compartment to see the blue bulbs in them...also an illegal mod.

Well, I'm a cop here in Texas, and I've checked the law pretty close before doing this. The light isn't exactly a driving light, so it doesn't affect the number of forward facing lights you have lit. The lens itself is still in the stock housing, so officers, down here at least, aren't as apt to investigate very closely. I must say that I am glad that I don't live in CA in those regards. I would hate dealing with the stickers and all that **** for approval.

BTW , The way it is wired, the blinker is not on constantly. You still have a brighter blinker. Its the 8 watt filament of the 1157 bulb that is on constantly. The 27 watt filament is the blinker.

can you get a video of the blinkers blinking? Sounds like an awesome mod...simple, low cost, effective, and visually pleasing. Wish I were in TX!
btw, I was in TX in mid october. Saw a few modded import cars, but mostly domestics. I was in the dallas area. is it like that everywhere?

I can do an MPG of it for sure, but I don't think I can host a video on cardomain. I could be wrong. I'll try tomorrow, but if not, I'll need someone to host the file for me, or I can email it to you.
As for the modded cars, right now, I think there is more modded pure American muscle down here than imports, but the import scene is catching on pretty fast. As a general rule, we're about 2-3 years behind CA in trends, so look for a big explosion soon in TX.
